How Britney Spears’s Catalog Sale Could Add to Her Net Worth

Britney Spears’s reported catalog sale could reshape her finances, but neither the price nor her current net worth has been publicly verified.

Britney Spears’s reported sale of her music catalog to Primary Wave is the clearest recent development that could add substantially to her wealth. The sale price and terms have not been publicly confirmed, however, and the often-repeated $70 million figure is not a verified current net-worth total.

What is known about the catalog sale?

Variety reported on February 11, 2026, that Spears sold her song catalog and an unclear number of other rights to music publisher Primary Wave. The publication said the details were unclear and that representatives declined to comment. Variety’s report does not establish exactly which rights transferred or how much Spears was paid.

The Guardian also reported that the terms and price were not public. Its account confirms the central limitation: the transaction has been reported, but a definitive sale value has not been disclosed.

Why reports mention nearly $200 million

Us Weekly cites an unnamed source estimating the price at “close to $200 million.” That is an attributed estimate, not an official sale price or a figure confirmed by the parties. Us Weekly’s report also describes documents it obtained as covering 100 percent of songs Spears wrote and recorded before December 30, 2025, associated royalties, demos and files, plus permission-based use of her name, image and likeness to promote the catalog. Those scope details are Us Weekly’s account of the documents; the complete contract is not public.

#1 Best Overall

Variety says Spears has songwriting credits on nearly 40 catalog songs, while noting that few were major hits. It suggests the reported sale likely included artist royalties and publishing rights, but describes the details as unclear. It would be too broad to claim from the available reporting that Spears sold every master, all publishing rights or unrestricted name-and-likeness rights.

How a catalog sale can affect wealth

A catalog sale can turn some expected future royalty income into an upfront payment. Whether that increases a person’s net worth, and by how much, depends on the actual consideration and the financial obligations attached to the transaction. The public reports do not establish Spears’s gross proceeds, taxes, fees, net cash received or the precise future income rights she gave up.

Rank #2
  • Sale value is not take-home money: A reported gross price does not show what remains after taxes, fees or other costs.
  • A payment is not net worth: Net worth is the value of assets minus liabilities. A transaction figure alone does not provide that balance sheet.
  • Future royalties may change: The sale may exchange some continuing income for upfront consideration, but the transferred rights and payment structure are not fully public.

Is Britney Spears’s net worth currently $70 million?

No publicly verified current balance sheet establishes that figure. Celebrity Net Worth published a February 2026 post-sale estimate of roughly $115 million to $150 million, based on differing assumed sale-price scenarios and deductions. It is a modeled estimate, not a disclosed valuation of Spears’s assets and liabilities. Celebrity Net Worth explains its estimate, but the assumptions should not be mistaken for confirmed financial records.

The frequently cited $70 million headline figure should therefore be treated as an estimate that may be outdated or contested, not a settled statement of her current wealth. Celebrity Net Worth also reports that 2021 court filings valued Spears’s estate at roughly $60 million at the end of her conservatorship. That historical figure, reported in its discussion of the earlier estate value, does not establish what she is worth now.

Other reported income: her memoir deal

Us Weekly reports that Spears’s 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, was part of a $15 million book deal. That reported deal value does not show how much she personally retained after costs or when payments were made, so it cannot be added directly to a net-worth estimate.

The Guardian notes that Spears’s conservatorship ended in 2021 and that her memoir recounts its effects. That history is relevant context for her finances, but it does not establish her present spending, assets or liabilities.

What remains uncertain

The current reporting does not provide an official transaction announcement with a price, a complete sale contract, Spears’s current asset-and-liability statement, a confirmed after-tax payout or audited annual royalty figures. Celebrity Net Worth’s separate estimate that the rights could have produced $8 million to $13 million per year before expenses is a speculative calculation based on assumed catalog multiples and unconfirmed sale values, not a reported royalty statement. Its estimate should be understood on those terms.

The most accurate conclusion is that a catalog transaction has been reported and could materially affect Spears’s wealth, while the sale’s value to her and her current net worth remain unverified.
