Usually, you can’t. Under Apple’s U.S. terms, Apple Gift Cards are not redeemable for cash unless applicable law requires it. If you think a local law gives you a cash-redemption right, check the current rule for your location and card type, then contact Apple. Otherwise, use the balance for an eligible Apple purchase or service. Don’t give the redemption code to someone promising to cash it out.
Will Apple cash out an Apple Gift Card?
Apple’s U.S. Apple Store Gift Card terms say cards may not be redeemed for cash, “except as required by law,” and that they are not for resale. Apple’s broader U.S. terms for gift cards and codes likewise say they are not redeemable for cash or returnable for a cash refund except where required by law. These are Apple’s U.S. terms, not a universal statement of every country’s rules.

The card type matters. Apple Store Gift Card terms cover purchases at a U.S. Apple Store, on apple.com, or by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE. A gift card already redeemed to an Apple Account is different: Apple’s terms say unused associated balances are not transferable. Check the specific card’s terms and the rules for your country rather than assuming every card bearing Apple’s logo works the same way.
Could local law require Apple to pay you cash?
Possibly, but Apple’s phrase “except as required by law” does not mean every holder is entitled to cash, nor does it establish a universal minimum balance that qualifies. Federal gift-card rules recognize that state law can affect covered gift certificates and store gift cards; they do not set one Apple-specific cash-out threshold for every U.S. location. The CFPB’s regulations are at 12 CFR § 1005.20 and 12 CFR § 1005.12.

To assess an exception, you need the state or other jurisdiction where the card is being used, the precise kind of Apple card or balance, its remaining value, and the current local rule. If you believe the rule applies, ask Apple how to submit a request; do not assume a payout is guaranteed.

Check the balance and contact Apple
Apple lists balance checking at apple.com/go/gcb/us or by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE. For U.S. gift-card questions, Apple lists support.apple.com/giftcard and 800-275-2273; its issuer page says callers should say “gift cards.”

Spend it on something you already plan to buy
Apple says Apple Gift Cards can be used for eligible products and accessories, apps, games, music, movies, TV shows, and services such as subscriptions. That lets you use the stored value for planned spending, but it does not turn the balance into cash. Apple’s issuer information is available at Apple Value Services, LLC.

Apple says its Apple Store Gift Cards are not for resale; its broader terms also prohibit resale and exchange. A person-to-person sale or marketplace listing is not an Apple-approved cash-out route, and handing over the code can give someone the ability to spend the balance. Apple warns that scammers may drain funds after obtaining a redemption number. Requests to use Apple Gift Cards to pay bills or government fees may be scams. See Apple’s guidance on gift card scams.

- Do not send a photo of the card, read out its code, or enter it on a site suggested by a stranger.
- Do not use an Apple Gift Card to pay an unrelated bill or government fee.
- If you have already shared the code, contact Apple promptly and report suspected fraud to the appropriate authorities. Apple notes that a scammer may spend the funds before you can reach Apple or law enforcement.
