Honda announced plans to begin Japanese sales in the second half of 2026 for two U.S.-built vehicles: the Acura Integra Type S and Honda Passport TrailSport Elite. The March announcement describes a planned launch, not confirmation that sales have begun. Honda cited Japan’s simplified certification system for U.S.-made passenger vehicles as part of the plan.
Which U.S.-built Honda models are planned for Japan?
The announcement names two models: the Acura Integra Type S and Honda Passport TrailSport Elite. It identifies one SUV—the Passport—and the Integra Type S, which Honda describes as a high-performance Integra variant. Honda’s release does not call the Integra a sedan.
Acura Integra Type S
Honda identifies Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio as the Integra Type S’s U.S. production plant. The company describes the North American version as the high-performance Integra variant.
Honda Passport TrailSport Elite
The Passport is a midsized SUV sold in North America; TrailSport Elite is its top trim, with enhanced off-road capability. Honda identifies Alabama Auto Plant as its production plant.

Honda says both vehicles are produced by Honda Development & Manufacturing of America, LLC, its U.S. automobile development and manufacturing subsidiary. Honda’s March 5, 2026 announcement provides the model and plant details.
When are sales expected to begin?
Honda’s stated target was the second half of 2026. The announcement does not give a specific launch date or establish that sales have started. It also does not provide Japanese ordering information.

Before the announcement, Honda displayed U.S.-version vehicles at Tokyo Auto Salon 2026 in January and Osaka Auto Messe 2026 in February. Honda said visitors showed strong interest and expressed expectations for a Japanese launch, but gave no visitor count or other quantified measure.
Why can Honda bring U.S.-built vehicles to Japan?
Honda said it would use a simplified certification system newly established by Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism for U.S.-made passenger vehicles. The company described the planned move as a reverse import: vehicles built in the United States for introduction into the Japanese market.

What are the U.S.-version specifications?
Honda’s release lists the following reference specifications for the North American versions. They are not confirmed Japanese-market specifications.

All engine, drivetrain, seating, horsepower, and torque figures in the table are U.S.-version reference specifications published by Honda in its March 5, 2026 release. Honda has not confirmed whether the Japanese-market vehicles will have the same specifications.

What is not yet established for Japanese buyers?
The March announcement does not state Japanese-market prices, final local specifications, a precise sales date, or how and where customers will order the vehicles. It is therefore not enough to determine the cost of either model or compare their Japanese-market prices. Buyers should treat the second-half-of-2026 timing as Honda’s announced plan unless a newer official update confirms availability.
