Nissan has announced seven manufacturing-site actions under its plan to reduce its vehicle-production footprint from 17 plants to 10 by FY2027. They are not seven confirmed full-plant closures: the actions include production transfers, the end of Nissan model production at one site, a joint-venture ownership change and a conditional agreement. The clearest announced exits are vehicle production at Oppama, Japan, and operations at CIVAC, Mexico; even those announcements must be read with their stated scope and timing.
What Nissan announced
Nissan’s Re:Nissan plan sets a target to reduce its vehicle-production footprint from 17 plants to 10 by FY2027. In its FY2025 Q4 presentation, Nissan said it had announced seven site actions within ten months and that six were planned for consolidation by the end of FY2026. Rosslyn was identified as an agreement subject to conditions and regulatory approvals. The target and announced actions do not establish that seven complete facilities have already closed.
The fiscal-year dates below are Nissan’s announced plans, not confirmation that each action was completed. Nissan’s materials do not verify the final operating status of every site as of October 8, 2026.

What is happening at Oppama and other Japanese plants?
Oppama’s vehicle production is moving, not every district function
Nissan said about 2,400 employees worked at Oppama and that plant employees would remain employed through FY2027. The company also reported that the plant had produced more than 17.8 million vehicles to date. These figures describe the July 2025 announcement; they do not establish employee outcomes after the announced transition.

Nissan’s September 2026 strategy describes the broader Japanese changes as a realignment of plant roles. Tochigi is assigned sports cars, electrified vehicles and minivans: Plant 1 is to make Fairlady Z and Skyline, and Plant 2 LEAF and Ariya. Nissan Motor Kyushu is to focus on global B- and C-segment vehicles, with Note, Note Aura and Kicks assigned to Plant 1 following their transfer from Oppama, and Rogue and X-Trail to Plant 2. Shonan is a model-production change
The Shonan announcement concerns Nissan NV200 production and the end of Nissan model production at the site. It does not establish that Nissan Shatai Shonan as a whole will close, nor does the cited announcement specify the successor’s production location.

How to interpret Nissan’s broader targets
Nissan’s production-footprint target of 17 plants to 10 by FY2027 is distinct from its February 2025 goal to reduce global production capacity from 5 million to 4 million units by FY2026, including China, and raise utilization from 70% in FY2024 to 85% in FY2026. Bottom line for workers, suppliers and local communities
The announcements identify exposure to a production change, but they are not enough to determine what happens to every job, supplier contract or property at the named sites. Nissan’s Oppama announcement specifies continued employment for plant employees through FY2027 and identifies other district facilities that remain operating; the available announcements do not provide comparable worker or land-use outcomes for every location. For an individual site, distinguish an end to vehicle production from an end to Nissan model production, a transfer, a change in ownership, or a conditional agreement—and treat stated fiscal-year dates as planned milestones unless Nissan confirms completion.
