That is a broad UK estimate, not a quote for a specific model and not a US price. BMW USA does not publish an installed replacement price on the consumer pages reviewed, so US owners need a VIN-specific estimate that spells out the repair and what it includes.
BMW EV battery replacement cost: what the published figure means
BMW UK describes £8,000–£20,000 as the average potential cost of replacing a BMW EV battery. The page does not identify a model, pack configuration, dealer, or labor scope for that range, so it is best treated as a broad UK estimate—not a guaranteed price for any one car. BMW UK’s battery-technology page has the published figure.
There is no comparable US installed-price range on the BMW USA consumer pages reviewed. BMW’s US battery page discusses cost factors, while its warranty page explains coverage, but neither gives a US pack-replacement quote. A US owner should request a written estimate tied to the vehicle identification number (VIN), then confirm whether the amount covers a complete battery pack or a module or other component, labor, diagnostics, and programming. BMW USA battery information and BMW USA cost and warranty information provide the relevant manufacturer context.
Why the repair scope matters
A warning light, reduced range, or a battery-related fault does not by itself prove that the entire high-voltage pack must be replaced. BMW’s certified-pre-owned EV information says an authorized center can diagnose the battery and, when warranty coverage applies, update software and repair or replace the necessary high-voltage components. The diagnosis and recommended repair scope should come before comparing prices. BMW’s CPO EV information describes that process.

Parts catalogs also need careful interpretation. A BMW of South Atlanta catalog listing for a 2024 i4 shows a battery-pack-related item at $9,197.99 in a section for high-voltage battery cells and covers. The listing does not establish that the item is a complete pack or include installation, so it is not a replacement quote or a sound US market estimate. View the dealer-parts catalog listing.
Check warranty coverage before paying out of pocket
For US vehicles, BMW of North America states that the high-voltage traction battery and its internal components are covered against defects in materials or workmanship for 96 months (8 years) or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. BMW separately says 2026 model-year battery-electric vehicles receive cell-module capacity-loss coverage if state of health falls below 70% during the same period. An authorized BMW center must confirm the condition, and BMW says it will perform the appropriate repair under BMW Group-approved standards and instructions. Certified-pre-owned coverage is a separate program, not a threshold that applies to every BMW EV. BMW’s CPO pages describe battery defect coverage for 8 years/100,000 miles and a below-75% state-of-health capacity-loss provision for eligible 2022–2025 certified EVs, subject to delivery-date and other vehicle-eligibility conditions. If covered, an authorized center diagnoses the vehicle and repairs or replaces necessary high-voltage components at no cost. What to ask for in a BMW battery estimate
Before authorizing a costly repair, ask the service center to put the diagnosis and estimate in writing. This makes it possible to compare like with like and to check whether warranty coverage may apply.

- What diagnostic findings identify the failed part, and what exact component needs repair?
- Is the recommendation for a cell module or another component, or for the complete high-voltage battery assembly?
- Has the car been checked for defect or capacity-loss warranty coverage? If capacity is the issue, what state-of-health test and threshold are being used?
- Does the estimate identify the vehicle by VIN and specify the model year and battery configuration?
- Is the quoted part new or remanufactured, and does the price include diagnostics, labor, programming, coolant or seals, taxes, and fees?
- What warranty applies to the replacement part and repair labor?
BMW names an authorized center as the place to confirm applicable US coverage and carry out repairs under its approved standards. If comparing estimates from different providers, confirm each one answers the same questions; a part-only figure and a fitted repair total are not comparable.

BMW notes that high-voltage lithium-ion battery capacity decreases over time and use. Its FAQ identifies ambient temperature, the number of charge cycles, and battery age as factors that influence battery life. Those factors do not establish a specific lifespan for a particular BMW model, nor do they predict whether an individual car will need a replacement.
