Wonder, the parent company of Grubhub, announced on January 20, 2026, that it acquired Claim, a restaurant rewards app. Claim is expected to scale with Grubhub, extending the delivery company’s merchant marketing tools to in-person dining. The purchase price was not disclosed.

What is Claim?

Claim is a rewards app built around weekly, personalized offers called “The Drop.” Diners choose an offer, visit a participating restaurant in person, pay with a linked payment card and receive cash back automatically after a qualifying purchase. The companies say shoppers do not need to enter a code or scan anything at checkout. Claim says linking a card lets it recognize qualifying purchases.

Claim also says it does not sell users’ personal information. That is the company’s own privacy assurance; people considering the service should review its current terms and privacy policy to understand what data it collects and how it uses it.

Which cities have Claim?

As of October 8, 2026, Claim’s website listed availability in ten U.S. metropolitan areas. The list is a snapshot from the company’s site, so check the app or website for current local eligibility before making plans.

When Claim announced the acquisition on January 20, it said availability was immediate in New York City and that a nationwide rollout was planned for later in 2026. That was a rollout plan, not confirmation that the service subsequently became available nationwide.

Why did Wonder acquire Claim?

Wonder and Grubhub describe Claim as a way to help restaurants attract new guests and encourage repeat visits, while giving Grubhub diners rewards for eating in person. The deal extends Grubhub’s marketing toolkit beyond delivery orders into restaurant discovery and in-person visits.

Grubhub said its network included more than 415,000 merchants and nearly 20 million diners in its January 2026 announcement. Those are company-stated figures for Grubhub’s network, not Claim’s user or restaurant totals. The companies have described the intended benefits of the integration; those statements do not establish that it has already produced particular results.

Grubhub CEO Howard Migdal said the technology would give restaurant partners another way to engage in-person diners. Claim co-founder and CEO Sam Obletz described the product as matching restaurants with potential regulars using rewards and machine-learning models.

What was the acquisition price?

The companies did not disclose the purchase price. TechCrunch reported that Claim had announced a $12 million Series A in October 2024 and had raised $20 million in total. TechCrunch also attributed a $62 million valuation estimate to PitchBook. Funding and a reported valuation are not the deal price.

What the deal means for diners and restaurants

For diners, Claim is distinct from a delivery discount: its described reward is tied to a qualifying in-person restaurant purchase made after selecting an offer and paying with a linked card. For restaurants, the app offers promotions and dashboard insights intended to support customer acquisition and retention. Availability, participating locations, offer details and qualifying-purchase rules can affect whether a particular diner or restaurant can use it.

The acquisition announcement says Claim will continue scaling with Grubhub, but the companies have not established a definitive integration timetable. That leaves open how quickly Claim’s offers, merchant tools or account experience may connect with Grubhub’s broader services.
