Google appointed Preeti Lobana to lead its India business, according to a TechCrunch report published December 16, 2024. At the time, Lobana was the company’s vice president of advertising technology and had been at Google since 2016. The appointment report does not establish whether she still holds the broader India role as of October 2026.

Who is Preeti Lobana?

TechCrunch reported that Lobana joined Google in 2016 and was its vice president of advertising technology when appointed to lead the company’s India business. Before Google, she worked at NatWest, American Express, and Standard Chartered, the report said. TechCrunch’s December 16, 2024 report said the India leadership post had been vacant since Sanjay Gupta was promoted to president for Asia-Pacific in July 2024.

In a LinkedIn post quoted by TechCrunch, Lobana described AI as an opportunity to improve business productivity, address difficult challenges, and create new solutions. That statement framed her view of the moment; it is not evidence of specific results from her appointment.

What does “India chief” mean in this report?

The title refers to leadership of Google’s broader India business, not to the separate head of Google Cloud India. The two roles have different business-unit remits, so a change in one does not by itself indicate a change in the other.

The appointment facts come from TechCrunch’s report; the sources reviewed did not include an official Google announcement of Lobana’s appointment. They also do not establish whether she remains the broader India business leader in October 2026.

What changed at Google Cloud India in October 2026?

Moneycontrol reported on October 7, 2026, that Amit Kumar would become interim leader of Google Cloud India, replacing Sashikumar Sreedharan. YourStory also reported the Cloud-specific transition and attributed the announcement to Karan Bajwa, Google Cloud’s Asia-Pacific president. Neither report confirms a change in Google’s broader India business leadership.

Titan: The Life of John D. Rockefeller, Sr.
  • From the acclaimed, award-winning author of Alexander Hamilton: here is the essential, endlessly engrossing biography of John D. Rockefeller, Sr.—the Jekyll-and-Hyde of American capitalism.
  • In the course of his nearly 98 years, Rockefeller was known as both a rapacious robber baron, whose Standard Oil Company rode roughshod over an industry, and a philanthropist who donated money lavishly to universities and medical centers.
  • He was the terror of his competitors, the bogeyman of reformers, the delight of caricaturists—and an utter enigma.

According to Moneycontrol, Kumar joined Google Cloud in March 2021 and most recently led its digital-native business in India. His earlier employers included Apple, Microsoft, IBM, and Tata Telecom. Those details concern Kumar’s Google Cloud role, not Lobana’s appointment.

Google’s later AI investment in India

Google announced in 2025 that it planned to invest approximately $15 billion USD over five years, from 2026 through 2030, in an AI hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Google described the project as a three-campus, gigawatt-scale hub being developed with AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel. On April 28, 2026, Google said construction had begun. Google’s announcement presents this as part of its infrastructure investment in India.

Google also cited an Access Partnership analysis it commissioned, which projected at least $15 billion USD in U.S. GDP over the same five-year period. That figure is the commissioned analysis’s projection for the United States, not a realized outcome or an independently verified result. This later infrastructure plan is distinct from the 2024 appointment report; the available sources do not establish that the investment caused Lobana’s appointment.
