Time+Tide’s April 26, 2024 feature framed the T1 as a clearer product proposition, while the written article offered only a short introduction and specifications—not a transcript of its video interview. It calls Vincent Perriard HYT’s new chairman in the body, despite “CEO” in the headline.
Why HYT’s display presents a distinctive challenge
HYT replaces the conventional hour hand with a moving boundary between two fluids inside a capillary. In the company’s description, a mechanical movement drives the system through two flexible reservoirs, or bellows. The colored fluid marks the hour; at 06:00 it retreats to its starting point in a reset HYT calls a “rewind.” HYT describes the technology and its history.
The display turns the passage of time into visible motion, but it asks the brand to do more than explain an unusual dial. Buyers also need to understand how the sealed fluid system works and what the watch offers beyond its visual difference. Those are communication and product-positioning demands implied by the mechanism, not findings from a consumer study.
What Perriard said was difficult to engineer
In a March 10, 2017 interview with The 1916 Company, Perriard, then HYT’s CEO, described the work behind the first prototype: “We faced a few complications and difficulties when creating the first prototype. Indeed, the fluid module technology is completely new in the watchmaking industry, therefore we had to start from scratch.”

He said the liquids had to meet watchmaking requirements involving color, uniform texture, vibration and shock resistance, temperature changes, long-term stability, and water resistance. He also described the system’s sensitivity to the precise volume of liquid and the need for a special setting system to keep the meniscus—the boundary between the fluids—from moving too quickly. These are Perriard’s account of development challenges, not independently reported test results. Read the interview.
Perriard said in that same 2017 interview that HYT had registered seven patents for the technology and one for the design. That is a historical figure, not a statement of the brand’s current patent portfolio. He also said the bellows were inspired by NASA sensors; that origin claim is attributable to him.

How the T1 was meant to clarify HYT’s offer
Time+Tide’s April 2024 feature characterized HYT’s earlier range as unusually broad, spanning from the high five figures into the hundreds of thousands, and presented the T1 as a way to establish clearer distinction in the collection. That is the publication’s assessment, not audited company pricing or evidence of sales performance.
The feature said the T1 hid the mechanism powering its fluidic hours for the first time. Its interpretation was that this made the offer easier to distinguish, while HYT remained committed to avant-garde designs such as the Conical Tourbillon Infinity Sapphires. The T1’s concealed mechanism therefore represented a product-direction choice, not a departure from the brand’s experimental identity.

HYT’s evolution, and what it does not establish
HYT’s official timeline begins with the H1 in 2012, presented as a meeting of fine watchmaking and fluid mechanics. It goes on to list H2, H3, H4, Skull, H0, H5, Hastroid, Moon Runner, Conical Tourbillon, and the 2024 T1 Series. The company’s About page currently lists S1, T1, Conical Tourbillon, Moon Runner, and Hastroid collections. See HYT’s official timeline and collection information.
The sequence documents product development, not commercial success, customer acceptance, reliability rates, or sales. HYT’s official site provides collection and service routes, and its February 2025 terms identify Kairos Technology Switzerland (KTS) SA as trading as HYT Watches. Those pages establish an official web and contact presence; they do not establish current leadership, stock, or prices. HYT’s terms and conditions and contact page provide the company’s published details.
