GreenMet announced a strategic partnership with Tanbreez, but the available announcement does not establish a GreenMet ownership stake, investment, or binding purchase commitment. Separately, Critical Metals Corp now owns 92.5% of Tanbreez, Greenland has approved its Mining and Closure Plans, REalloys has a distinct offtake agreement, and U.S. financing remains at the letter-of-interest stage.
What the GreenMet–Tanbreez announcement means
GreenMet described its arrangement with Tanbreez as a strategic partnership intended to support secure critical-mineral supply chains. The announcement is GreenMet’s own account of the partnership. It does not disclose complete contract terms, including any exclusivity, compensation, duration, or detailed services. Nor does the reviewed announcement establish that GreenMet bought equity in Tanbreez or made a binding commitment to purchase its output.
GreenMet CEO Drew Horn characterized Tanbreez as “the only shovel ready rare earth project in Greenland.” That is management’s description, not an independent finding that the project is ready to build or produce. The announcement also promotes the project’s resource potential; its economic claims should not be treated as independently verified valuations on the evidence disclosed there.
Where ownership, permits, offtake, and financing stand
| Item | What has been disclosed | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Tanbreez ownership | Critical Metals Corp reported in a 2026 SEC filing that Greenland approved transfer of the remaining 50.5% interest in April 2026, bringing Critical Metals’ ownership to 92.5%. | It does not make GreenMet an owner; GreenMet’s partnership announcement does not disclose an equity stake. |
| Mining and Closure Plans | Critical Metals announced on October 5, 2026 that Greenland had signed approvals on September 29. The plans run through September 8, 2050. | These plan approvals are not the activity-specific operating permits the company says are still needed before construction. |
| REalloys offtake | A May 2026 SEC-filed announcement says REalloys executed a definitive agreement for 15% of monthly Phase 1 production. | This is a separate contract with Critical Metals, not a GreenMet purchase commitment; first commercial delivery remains a future condition. |
| Potential U.S. loan | CSIS reported that EXIM sent Critical Metals a letter of interest in June 2025 regarding a potential $120 million loan. | A letter of interest is not final loan approval, a closing, or disbursement. |
Has Greenland approved the Tanbreez mine?
Greenland has approved the project’s Mining Plan and Closure Plan, an important permitting milestone, but that is not equivalent to authorization to begin construction or proof that the mine is operating. Critical Metals’ October 2026 announcement says activity-specific operating permits remain before construction. Its chairman and CEO, Tony Sage, described the plans as a framework for development and said the company would move forward with those permits.

- Mineral collection contains 20 samples
- Set also includes a magnifier, streak plate, magnet, iron nail, index (sort) cards, sorting needle, and a lab manual
- Samples are 1" to 2" in size and are individual marked with numbers for easy identification
- Sorting (index) cards use a process of elimination to assist in identification
- Samples are packaged in a plastic tray
The underlying exploitation licence, MIN 2020-54, was granted in 2020 to Tanbreez Mining Greenland A/S. A 2026 Critical Metals technical report summary describes it as covering 18 square kilometres and lists an expiry date of September 7, 2050. The later plan-approval announcement gives September 8, 2050 as the plans’ end date. These are different details reported in different company materials, not evidence that production has started.
What the REalloys agreement does—and does not—cover
REalloys’ agreement concerns a portion of planned Phase 1 output and is distinct from the GreenMet partnership. The May 2026 filing describes a 15-year initial term beginning with first commercial delivery, plus a five-year long-stop date. The filing does not establish that commercial delivery has occurred.

Before commercial delivery, the product must meet agreed specifications and pass REalloys’ qualification protocols. The filing also says certain commercial details remain subject to finalization under the agreement. The disclosed production share therefore should not be read as evidence that the mine is producing or that every commercial term is settled.
Is U.S. financing for Tanbreez committed?
No final loan commitment is established by the cited evidence. CSIS’s January 2026 analysis reported a June 2025 EXIM letter of interest concerning a potential $120 million loan to Critical Metals. An expression of interest indicates preliminary financing attention; it does not show that EXIM approved, closed, or disbursed a loan.

That distinction matters when assessing project funding. The reported letter is not the same as cash available for construction, and it should not be added to committed financing totals without evidence of a completed lending process.

- GreenMet’s role: The announcement establishes a strategic partnership as described by GreenMet, but does not disclose full contractual terms, an equity investment, or a binding offtake.
- Permitting and execution: Plan approval is a milestone, while activity-specific operating permits remain on the path to construction. CSIS also identifies infrastructure, energy, social licence, and regulatory constraints as broader challenges for mining in Greenland.
- Commercial production: The REalloys contract is conditioned on future first delivery and product qualification; the disclosures do not establish that Tanbreez has begun commercial output.
- Project claims: Resource, readiness, supply-chain, and economic descriptions should be attributed to the company or analyst making them rather than treated as independently established results.
For readers following the project as a critical-minerals investment story, the key distinction is between announced relationships and completed milestones: GreenMet has announced a partnership, Critical Metals has reported increased ownership and plan approvals, REalloys has disclosed a separate future-output contract, and the EXIM item remains a letter of interest. Those developments are meaningful, but they do not by themselves show a producing mine or fully committed construction financing.
