Grain futures finished lower on Friday, September 4, 2026: December corn settled at $5.36¾ per bushel, November soybeans at $13.09¾, and the three listed December wheat contracts fell between 13¼¢ and 20½¢. These are prices from that session, not live quotes.
How grain futures finished on September 4, 2026
Successful Farming’s session recap reported the following closing prices and daily moves:

CBOT, Kansas City and Minneapolis are distinct wheat contracts; their prices and daily moves should be read as separate market quotes, not interchangeable measures. The largest listed decline was December Minneapolis wheat at 20½¢, narrowly exceeding December CBOT wheat’s 20¼¢ drop.
Why did grains close in the red?
The recap documents the declines but does not establish a single cause for them. It would be misleading to attribute the entire move to one announcement or factor based on this report alone.

Technical view on corn and soybeans
Naomi Blohm, senior market advisor with Total Farm Marketing, said that December corn and November soybeans had broken their uptrends the prior day and had not managed to close back above them. For the September 4 session, she identified $5.45 as the closing level December corn would need to exceed to return to the uptrend, and $13.23 for November soybeans. Both contracts settled below those levels. This was Blohm’s dated technical assessment, not a current market signal or a trading recommendation.
USDA soybean purchase reported in the morning
Successful Farming’s morning update said USDA had announced an unknown-destination purchase of 250,600 metric tons of soybeans for the 2026/2027 marketing year. The report did not say that the purchase caused the later declines.

At 8:52 a.m. CT, the same report listed:
- December corn at $5.37 per bushel, down 3¾¢.
- November soybeans at $13.08¼, down 8¢.
- December CBOT wheat at $7.47½, down 6¾¢.
- December Kansas City wheat at $8.12, down 3½¢.
- December Minneapolis wheat at $7.61½, down 4¢.
