GeekWire reported that Goodbill then covered 50,000 people through several employers and third-party administrators (TPAs). That figure describes the business at the time—not its current reach.
What Goodbill’s 2024 funding announcement said
GeekWire reported on March 26, 2024, that Goodbill had raised $2 million. In its own announcement the next day, Goodbill called the round “nearly $2 million” and said its total funding to date had reached $5.3 million. The round was anchored by Founders’ Co-op, Maveron and Liquid 2 Ventures, alongside additional unnamed funds and angel investors. GeekWire said those three firms had also invested in Goodbill’s $3.4 million December 2021 round. (GeekWire; Goodbill)
The company described the capital as backing an expansion of its hospital-claim review service for employers and plan administrators. Patrick Haig, Goodbill’s co-founder and CEO, told GeekWire that this was “a way to significantly get to scale.”
How the expansion changed the timing of bill review
Goodbill’s consumer service reviews hospital bills for individual patients after charges have been incurred. Its employer-plan offering moves review earlier: Goodbill says it checks hospital claims against a member’s medical record to flag possible errors or inflated charges before a plan pays the provider. In March 2024, the company was still serving individual patients while also working with several employers and TPAs, covering 50,000 people, according to GeekWire.
#1 Best Overall
| Approach | Who it serves | When review occurs | Stated scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Employer health-plan review | Self-funded or level-funded employer plans and their administrators | Before the plan pays a hospital claim | Claim review against member medical records; Goodbill also says it screens for possible hospital financial-assistance eligibility |
| Individual bill help | A patient dealing with a hospital bill | After the patient authorizes Goodbill and provides required records | Charge review, a proposed dispute letter, and—if the patient approves—hospital negotiation |
These are different points in the billing process, not a head-to-head comparison of competing products. The employer service aims to identify claim issues before plan payment; the consumer service may help challenge a bill after it reaches a patient.
What Goodbill says its services do
For employer plans
Goodbill says its system combines AI, data, technology and member support to review hospital claims. The company also describes screening claims for potential eligibility for hospital financial assistance under Internal Revenue Code section 501(r), and beginning an application when a member appears eligible. These are descriptions of Goodbill’s own service, not independent assessments of its accuracy or results. (Goodbill’s announcement)
Rank #2
Goodbill’s 2024 announcement estimated that roughly one in every two claims contains overcharges and said combining claim reviews with 501(r) discounts produced average annual facility-spend savings of 8%. Both figures are company claims; the reviewed sources do not independently establish a national overcharge rate or verify the savings result.
For individual patients
Goodbill’s Help Center describes a process that starts with authorization to speak with the hospital and obtain detailed records. After receiving the required documents, the company reviews the charges and prepares a letter explaining possible dispute reasons for the patient to consider. If the patient approves, Goodbill sends the letter and negotiates with the hospital. The company says a successful negotiation may lead to a discounted offer, but it does not promise that every case will succeed. (Goodbill Help Center)
Rank #3
Goodbill’s typical estimates are 24–48 hours for the review and 30–40 days for negotiation, with an overall process of around 60 days. The company notes that the hospital’s response time affects the total duration.
How to read Goodbill’s scale figures
Goodbill’s About page, accessed October 8, 2026, reports 13,000-plus employers, 600,000-plus members and 6,000-plus providers. Those are current company-reported figures, and the page excerpt provides no dated methodology. They should not be confused with GeekWire’s contemporaneous March 2024 figure of 50,000 people covered through several employers and TPAs. (Goodbill About; GeekWire)
Rank #4
Goodbill’s 2024 announcement also said that six in 10 U.S. hospitals are nonprofit and offered a family-of-four income of $111,000 as an example in its interpretation of 2024 federal income guidelines for potential 501(r) discounts. That example is not a universal eligibility cutoff: financial-assistance availability and qualification depend on the hospital’s policy and the household’s circumstances.

The raise marked a business expansion: Goodbill was applying its hospital-bill review capabilities to employer plans before payment while continuing to help individual patients after bills arose. The sources establish the company’s stated service model and reported growth, but they do not independently evaluate claim-review accuracy, confirm the company’s overcharge estimate or validate its savings claims. For a patient considering bill help, the described consumer process involves sharing records and authorizing hospital contact; for an employer or plan administrator, the relevant offering is earlier claim review.
