How grain futures closed on May 31, 2022
The Agriculture.com / Successful Farming report by Cory Bratland gave the following changes for the July and new-crop contracts in that session. Grain-futures changes are in cents per bushel.

The exchange and wheat class matter: Chicago, Kansas City and Minneapolis wheat are separate contracts, so their changes should not be treated as one quote. The figures describe the May 31, 2022 session, not a live market price. The report also said live cattle, feeder cattle and lean hog futures closed lower; crude oil was down 7 cents and Dow futures were 222 points lower, all as historical figures from that account. Why the report said prices fell
Month-end selling
Bratland described month-end fund selling and risk reduction as central to the session, writing: “Month-end selling by the funds took center stage.” This is the author’s contemporaneous interpretation of market pressure, not proof that fund activity alone caused the declines.

Ukraine export headlines and spillover
The recap said wheat was sensitive to headlines that Russia might allow Ukrainian grain exports through the Black Sea. It also described wheat weakness spilling into corn. These were factors discussed in the report at the time, not independently established causes of the session’s price moves.
U.S. planting progress and weather
As the recap reported USDA Crop Progress, U.S. corn was 86% planted, compared with 94% at the same point a year earlier and a five-year average of 87%. Soybeans were 66% planted, compared with 85% a year earlier and a five-year average of 67%. Bratland described weather as non-threatening. Those crop-progress figures are the report’s account; they have not been independently checked here against the original USDA release.

What this market recap can—and cannot—tell you
The report is a snapshot of one trading session, with contract-specific losses and the author’s explanation of the day’s pressures. It does not establish what caused each move, predict later prices or provide current futures quotes.
