The store was originally forecast to open in November 2024; the retailer later announced its grand-opening celebration for 22 March 2025 and now lists the location as open 24 hours a day.
What’s at The Good Grocer in East Fremantle?
The Good Grocer’s current store page describes a 24/7 supermarket with grocery essentials, local Western Australian produce, deli food, ready-to-eat meals, bakery items, and barista-made coffee. It also lists French rotisserie chicken at The Chook Shack, baked goods and treats from Rottnest Island Bakery, catering and grazing boxes, and wines, beers and spirits. These are the retailer’s own descriptions; check its East Fremantle store page for current details before visiting.
The venue was planned as more than a grocery shop. In the 2024 report, director Holly Brindle said the aim was “a food destination” where customers could find inspiration, recipes and new ideas. She also said the retailer had in-house chefs focused on restaurant-quality, healthy meals. Those comments describe the concept at the time; the current store page lists ready-to-eat meals but does not separately confirm the chefs’ present-day role.
Where is it, and what was there before?
The supermarket is at 6 Silas Street, East Fremantle, in the former Foodworks premises. Foodworks closed in late 2022, according to PerthNow’s 1 February 2024 report.

What happened to the opening date and approvals?
PerthNow reported in February 2024 that the supermarket had development approval and was expected to open in November 2024. It also reported that the Town of East Fremantle had approved 24-hour, seven-day supermarket trading. The liquor store proposed at the time was a separate matter and still required liquor licensing approval.
The Good Grocer subsequently described the location as recently opened and announced a public grand-opening event for 22 March 2025. Its current page lists the store as open 24/7 and advertises wines, beers and spirits. The available reporting does not establish the date the liquor licence was granted, so the opening timeline and the liquor-licensing history should not be treated as the same approval.
