As of October 8, 2026, that transfer is still in the future. The distinction matters to owners: KOHL says it will sell remaining inventory through year-end and guarantee warranty and after-sales support beyond 2026, but that does not mean every part is in stock at every seller.
What is changing at AC Schnitzer?
KOHL Group, the German company behind AC Schnitzer’s current manufacturing operation, said in March 2026 that it would part ways with the division at the end of the year and stop manufacturing tuning parts for BMW and MINI. KOHL said it would focus more on retail and service for vehicles and motorcycles. Its announcement is available in the March 2026 company release.
That announcement concerns KOHL’s manufacturing operation; it does not, by itself, mean the AC Schnitzer name or all future products are ending. In September, AM Group announced a planned transfer of the brand, expected in November 2026. Because that date had not arrived as of October 8, the transfer should be understood as announced, not completed.

Why KOHL says it is stopping manufacturing
KOHL attributes the decision to the economics and competitive conditions of manufacturing tuning products in Germany. The company cites rising development and production costs, delays in parts approval compared with international competitors, difficult international market conditions, and changes in consumer behavior and powertrain trends. It also points to the gradual phase-out of internal-combustion engines, U.S. tariffs, raw-material prices, currency volatility, supplier issues, and consumers’ reluctance to spend amid a weak economy. These are KOHL’s stated reasons, not independently measured findings about the entire aftermarket industry. The company’s explanation appears in its March announcement.

AC Schnitzer Managing Director Rainer Vogel described the timing problem this way: “If we can only bring aftermarket parts to market eight or nine months after the competition, that speaks for itself,” according to the March release. The eight- or nine-month figure is Vogel’s comparison of product-launch timing, not an independently verified measure of approval delays.
What happens to existing parts, warranties, and support?
KOHL said it would sell remaining BMW and MINI inventory through the end of 2026 and guarantee warranties and after-sales support beyond that date. This is the company’s stated commitment; it does not confirm that a specific part is available from a particular dealer or retailer. Check directly with the seller about stock, warranty handling, and support for an individual purchase. KOHL’s inventory and support statement is in the company announcement.

What products does AC Schnitzer make?
KOHL’s announcement names forged wheels, exhaust systems, suspension upgrades, aerodynamic add-ons, and engine tuning among the product categories. AM Group’s description also refers to performance, suspension, wheel, aerodynamic, and vehicle-personalization products. For a used or remaining-stock part, check that it fits the exact BMW or MINI model and confirm what approval documentation applies before buying. AM Group’s September 2026 announcement says the AC Schnitzer brand is planned to transfer to the group in November. AM Group says it intends to retain the brand’s identity and technical approach, invest in product development, design, and international growth, and transfer technical documentation and TÜV certification files to a new German company. AM Group says AC Schnitzer was founded in Aachen in 1987 and describes the brand as specializing in BMW and MINI performance products.
