Who is Safra A. Catz?
Catz is a longtime Oracle executive and board member whose career at the technology company spans operational leadership, finance, and corporate governance. She joined Oracle in 1999 and has served on its board since 2001. Oracle’s official executive biography currently identifies her as executive vice chair of the Oracle board.
What is her role at Oracle now?
Oracle announced on September 22, 2025 that Catz would become executive vice chair as Clay Magouyrk and Mike Sicilia became the company’s CEOs. The transition ended her CEO tenure, which began in September 2014. Oracle’s announcement quoted chairman and chief technology officer Larry Ellison describing her leadership this way: “Safra led Oracle as we became a hyperscale cloud powerhouse—clearly demonstrated by our recent results.” That is Ellison’s assessment, rather than an independent measure of her tenure.
Oracle’s current biography uses the title “executive vice chair.” A 2026 SEC-filed disclosure uses “Executive Chairman,” so the titles differ across company and filing materials. For her current role, Oracle’s present biography provides the company’s stated title.
How did Catz rise through Oracle?
Before becoming CEO, Catz held several positions at Oracle, including president and chief financial officer roles. The milestone dates distinguish her executive work from her board service:

These milestones are drawn from Oracle’s 2025 proxy statement and its September 22, 2025 succession announcement. The proxy records CFO service across multiple periods; the table gives the documented 2005–2008 span without implying that it was her only CFO service.
Was Safra Catz on Disney’s board?
Yes. Disney announced her election to its board in 2017, but the date she began service is recorded as 2018. An SEC-filed disclosure lists her Disney director service as 2018–2024, and Disney announced her departure on July 19, 2024, after six years on the board. The distinction matters: the election announcement came in 2017, while the recorded period of service began the following year.

What did Catz do before Oracle?
Before joining Oracle, Catz worked at investment bank Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, including as a managing director in investment banking. Oracle’s biography and the SEC-filed disclosure describe this earlier career; they do not establish a detailed account of every position she held there.

Oracle’s biography lists several roles beyond her executive vice chair position:
- She lectures on the Stanford Graduate School of Business faculty.
- She chaired the Oracle Education Foundation from 2004, after joining its board when it was founded in 2000.
- She serves on the board of trustees of In-Q-Tel.
- She serves on the board of Paramount Skydance.
These affiliations are listed in Oracle’s official biography; they are separate from her former service on Disney’s board.
