Will petrol prices rise again in Pakistan?
The headline’s source, TechJuice, reported an expected increase and a review of subsidy arrangements. That did not establish that a further increase had been approved. Pakistan’s Petroleum Division listed price notices dated October 1 through October 7, 2026, but the listing alone does not provide the October 7 rates. The latest price therefore depends on the effective period in the relevant official notice.
For the dated October 1 rates, the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported small reductions, citing a Petroleum Division notification: petrol fell by Rs0.14 per litre and high-speed diesel by Rs1.89 per litre. Those changes do not confirm what later notices set.

These are the rates reported as effective October 1, 2026—not a claim about rates after that date. APP said the ex-depot prices were determined by OGRA and cited international Platts rates, premiums and related costs as factors.

How does the PM Fuel Relief Scheme differ from a pump-price cut?
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) announced a targeted relief scheme on September 14, 2026. It is assistance for qualifying users, not a reduction in the posted petrol price for every motorist. The ECC’s announcement set out these initial terms:

Who is receiving assistance, and how is it redeemed?
In an October 6 report, the Associated Press said officials reported more than 9 million people receiving assistance. That is an attributed program-reach figure, not an independently audited count in the cited report.

AP described a token system: eligible recipients receive digital tokens by text message and redeem them at participating fuel stations, where eligibility is checked. Its report said motorcycle and three-wheeler users qualified for Rs500 weekly, with up to four tokens a month. Owners of cars up to 800cc qualified for Rs100 per litre on up to 10 litres every 10 days, with three tokens a month. These reported implementation details should not be confused with the ECC announcement’s initial description.

This is a CPI comparison across those two months; it does not mean pump prices rose by 37.73% during October. The figure is part of the wider price context, not a forecast of the next notification. How to check the rate that applies now
- Open the Petroleum Division’s price-notice listing.
- Select the notice for the relevant date, including October 7 if checking that date.
- Read the stated effective period and the petrol and high-speed diesel prices in the notice. Do not carry forward an earlier rate unless the notice says it remains in effect.
- Check scheme eligibility and redemption separately from the posted pump price; relief is targeted and subject to the applicable program terms.
