The rankings cover participating programs in the United States and Canada—not universities worldwide—and are a starting point for comparing schools, not a personalized recommendation.
How Gartner ranked supply chain programs
Gartner said its biennial ranking was designed to help supply chain leaders and HR partners identify programs that fit talent needs. The 2024 comparison included complete survey responses from 52 undergraduate programs and 47 graduate programs. Gartner compared programs across three categories: program scope, industry value and program size. Its July 17, 2024 release does not provide category weights or full institution-level scores, so the published order cannot be recreated from a disclosed scoring formula. Gartner’s 2024 announcement is about university programs, distinct from its corporate Supply Chain Top 25.

What changed in the 2024 lists
Arkansas retained the undergraduate lead, with Tennessee and South Carolina holding second and third. North Texas rose two places to fourth, and Rutgers stayed fifth for a fourth consecutive cycle. Colorado State, Georgia Southern and Washington University, St. Louis entered the undergraduate top 25 for the first time in 2024.
#1 Best Overall
Tennessee repeated as the top graduate program, followed by Arkansas, Rutgers, UT Dallas and South Carolina. Wayne State and North Texas returned to the graduate list; Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Boston University joined it for the first time.
What the ranking says about curriculum
Gartner reported growing interest in supply chain analytics alongside declining manufacturing focus. Dana Stiffler, distinguished vice president analyst in Gartner’s Supply Chain practice, said: “Looking at curriculum across undergraduate and graduate programs, we’ve seen growing interest in supply chain analytics, however, a decline in manufacturing focus.”
Rank #2
In Gartner’s survey comparison, less than 50% of supply chain MBA programs had significant manufacturing content, compared with 76% of programs two cycles earlier, in 2020. These figures describe Gartner’s survey and comparison; they should not be read as estimates for every North American supply chain degree program.

A high position does not establish that a program is the right choice for a particular student, nor does a school’s absence from the list establish that its program is inferior. The ranking covers participating programs that submitted complete responses, and Gartner’s release does not show that rank predicts an individual student’s outcomes.
Rank #3
Compare schools in an order that fits the decision:
- Choose the degree level. Start with undergraduate versus graduate study; the rankings differ by level.
- Compare curriculum. Check course requirements and electives, especially analytics and manufacturing content if either matters to your goals.
- Verify the financial details. Review current tuition, fees, financial aid and any costs tied to the program directly with each university.
- Check admissions and format. Confirm current admission requirements, location and whether the program is available online.
- Investigate experience and outcomes. Ask schools about internships, employer access and career outcomes, and assess which details are relevant to your own circumstances.
Gartner’s release does not provide applicant-specific tuition, admissions, format, curriculum or outcome details. Use current university information to fill those gaps before deciding.
