What was the GameStop Switch 2 infinite money glitch?
According to GameStop’s statement, as reproduced by HotHardware and TechSpot, a customer could buy a Nintendo Switch 2 for $414.99 and immediately trade it in together with a pre-owned game. The trade triggered a bonus that raised the console’s trade credit to $472.50.

The difference between those two cited amounts is $57.51. That is an arithmetic comparison, not a reported net profit: it does not account for the price of the game, taxes, or other transaction terms. GameStop described the return as trade credit, not an equivalent cash payout. The word “infinite” in the reports refers to the alleged repeatability of the loophole, not unlimited cash or an offer that remains available.
Did GameStop patch the Switch 2 trade-in glitch?
Yes. In the January 20, 2026, statement reproduced by the two outlets, GameStop said, “Effective immediately, the glitch has been patched.” It also said its trade promotions had been updated to prevent customers from converting “basic arithmetic into an endless revenue stream.”

The reports reproduce the same company statement, so they are not two independent official confirmations. The reported transaction and patch should be understood as GameStop’s account of a historical promotion, not evidence of a current way to earn money.
Can you still trade in a Switch 2 at GameStop?
GameStop does offer trade-ins, but its listed values and bonuses are separate from the patched promotion and can change. A Switch 2 listing generated on October 7, 2026, showed the following amounts and said the offer expired at the end of that business day:

These were dated, maximum values—not a standing offer or proof that the January loophole returned. GameStop’s listing described the Pro bonus as 10% extra in-store credit for games and accessories, not systems or consumer electronics. Check the official GameStop trade-in page for the offer in effect on the day you plan to trade.

GameStop says its trade program applies to selected products at selected stores in the United States and Guam. The value you receive can depend on the offer available, the product’s condition, and whether required components are included. Its Switch 2 listing said full value required a working item and that trades were subject to manager approval.
