Is GRSE apprentice recruitment 2024 still open?
No. Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) advertised the posts under Notification APP:01/24 for training year 2024–25. Online registration ran from 19 October 2024 at 14:00 until 17 November 2024 at 23:59. The notice required online applications through GRSE Careers or its APP:01/24 portal; other submission methods were not accepted. The application window has closed, so the old notice or portal should not be treated as an active application route. Check GRSE Careers for current recruitment notices and their dates.

How many apprentice posts were announced?
The notice announced approximately 230 apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961, as amended. The category figures were indicative, and GRSE reserved the right to change the number of seats.

Placement locations varied by category and trade. The notice specified Kolkata and Ranchi placements in its individual tables, so a particular location should be checked against the relevant trade or discipline in the original advertisement rather than inferred from the category alone. Who was eligible for each apprentice category?
The 2024 notice used different qualification and age rules for each track. The ages below were calculated as of 1 September 2024, and training durations and exclusions reflect that notice rather than current recruitment rules.

For this recruitment, the notice listed age relaxation of five years for SC/ST candidates, three years for OBC-NCL candidates, and ten years for PH/differently abled candidates, subject to its certificate conditions. It also limited eligibility to Indian nationals and said part-time or distance-learning qualifications would not be considered.
What were the stipend amounts?
The APP:01/24 notice published the following monthly consolidated stipend figures. It said the amount would be deposited in a savings bank account and that no other benefits or allowances were payable. These are historical figures from GRSE’s 2024 notice, not a statement of rates for a later cycle.

How were candidates selected?
Selection was based on marks in the qualifying examination for the relevant track. Candidates were called for document verification in merit order; shortlisted applicants also had to pass a medical examination, and a police verification report was required at joining.
- Ex-ITI: AITT marks.
- Fresher trade: Class 10 marks.
- Graduate: engineering degree marks.
- Technician: diploma marks.
For fresher trade apprentices, allotment among trades depended on merit and available seats. The notice also instructed candidates to register on the applicable apprenticeship portal before applying: Apprenticeship India for trade apprentices, and NATS for graduate and technician apprentices.
Did completing the apprenticeship guarantee a GRSE job?
No. The notice expressly stated: “It shall not be obligatory on the part of GRSE to offer any employment to the apprentice on completion of period of apprenticeship training.” Applicants should understand the post as a training opportunity, not a promise of permanent employment.
