There is no verified fresh takeover announcement confirming A$AP Rocky is buying or investing in Tranmere Rovers. The latest reported update in the available coverage came in May 2025, when club chairman Mark Palios said three groups were vying for control after a share sale agreed the previous year had been delayed. Rocky’s connection was reported in October 2024 but was not directly confirmed by Palios.
What did Mark Palios say about the takeover?
On 16 May 2025, BBC Sport reported that Tranmere chairman Mark Palios said three groups were vying for control of the club. Palios said an offer to buy shares had been accepted in the previous year, but the sale had been delayed. His statement did not identify the three groups or confirm that a transaction had since completed.
Palios told BBC Sport: “We have three different groups (including both the party with whom we agreed terms last year, and the party who narrowly missed out at that stage), all of whom… we feel would be able to take the club forward.” BBC Sport’s May 2025 report did not establish that A$AP Rocky was involved in a current bid.
What is A$AP Rocky’s reported connection?
On 22 October 2024, BBC Sport reported that Rocky was reportedly part of an investment group led by lawyer Joe Tacopina that was interested in buying an 80% stake in Tranmere. That figure described reported interest, not a completed purchase or confirmed ownership stake. Palios did not directly confirm Rocky’s involvement. He said Tacopina was one of several interested parties and that the club would share more when it could.

In a separate May 2025 account, The Real EFL described the Tacopina consortium’s inclusion of Rocky as rumoured. That secondary report does not confirm that Rocky was part of any of the three groups Palios mentioned. The Real EFL report should therefore be read as a report of a rumour, not confirmation from the club.
What is known—and not known—about the deal?
| Question | What the reported information establishes |
|---|---|
| Were groups interested in taking control? | Palios said in May 2025 that three groups were vying for control. |
| Was an offer accepted? | Palios said an offer to buy shares had been accepted in the prior year, but the sale had been delayed. |
| Was Rocky confirmed as a buyer or investor? | No. His reported link to the Tacopina group was not directly confirmed by Palios. |
| Was the sale completed, or was a current investor identified? | Not established by the available reports. |
BBC Sport reported in October 2024 that Palios had said the club had been looking for investment for almost two years and had been approached, while adding that it did not have a “for sale” sign up. Those remarks indicate interest in investment, not that a sale was certain or imminent. BBC Sport’s October 2024 report also recorded Palios’s answer “ASAP” when asked about timing; it was not a completion date.

What is the latest status?
The available reporting does not verify a completed sale, the identity of a current proposed investor, or Rocky’s participation. The later status of any proposal associated with Sports Alpha Capital is likewise not confirmed by an official statement in the information available here. Until Tranmere or another authoritative source confirms the parties and transaction stage, claims that Rocky has bought into or taken over the club should be treated as unverified.
