FireMon said its April 13, 2015 acquisition of Immediate Insight added fast search, analytics, and workflow for operational security-event data to its network security intelligence offerings. The companies presented the combination as a way to help security teams identify gaps and investigate active compromises; they did not disclose the purchase price, and the announcement did not independently verify the promised benefits.

What FireMon acquired

Immediate Insight was a software company based in Los Altos, California. Its product analyzed operational security-event data. In the acquisition announcement, FireMon described the software as bringing “search engine-like speed and simplicity” to that analysis. Dark Reading republished FireMon’s announcement on April 13, 2015.

The two companies addressed different but related layers of security work:

  • FireMon: network security intelligence, including insight into security policy and infrastructure.
  • Immediate Insight: search, analytics, and workflow across structured and unstructured operational security-event data.

FireMon said combining them would give security and operations teams a way to look for relationships, issues, and anomalies in event data alongside network-security information. The intended users named in the announcement included large enterprises, government agencies, and managed security service providers. The acquisition announcement described these as capabilities and intended uses, not independently tested results.

FireMon CEO Jody Brazil said the technology expanded the company’s capabilities and supported what he called a “highly actionable, multi-tiered security intelligence model.” Immediate Insight founder and CEO Jeff Barker said the companies aimed to combine FireMon’s security intelligence with Immediate Insight’s data analysis to give organizations insight into current and future security risks. These were statements from the companies’ leaders, not independent assessments of performance.

What is known about Immediate Insight today?

FireMon’s current company positioning focuses on firewall policy control across multivendor firewall environments, cloud networks, and microsegmentation. Its company page describes that present-day focus, but does not establish whether Immediate Insight remains separately sold or supported, or exactly how its technology fits into FireMon’s current portfolio. The available sources do not settle those questions.
