Astala Luna’s About page identifies Chiara Luna as its designer and founder, places the business in Perth, Australia, and says it launched in November 2021.
The legal entity has a different date: the Australian Business Register lists ASTALA LUNA PTY LTD as an active Australian private company from 30 September 2021, with GST registration from that date and a main business location in WA 6163. The original idea was practical: Luna told PerthNow in May 2022 that she could not find a cute makeup bag that was washable and plastic free. The brand began with cosmetic and carry-all bags, intended for items such as makeup, skincare or stationery, or use as a purse.

What does “booming” mean in Astala Luna’s case?
The word “booming” comes from the 2022 PerthNow feature, which also reported that the bags were favourites with influencers Martha Kalifatidis, Tammy Hembrow and Em Davies. Those are claims reported at the time, not evidence of current endorsements.
Other growth-related figures also need attribution. Astala Luna’s home page advertises “2500+ five star reviews,” a count reported by the brand. A profile published by Fremantle retailer Common Ground Collective on 31 May 2025 reported a 2200% sales increase; the retailer did not state the period or baseline, and the figure is not presented as audited company data. She also described an intention to avoid producing more than needed: “I want to be a company that only creates what’s needed. I don’t want to go over the top and create excessive waste in the world.” These are the founder’s stated aims in that 2022 interview; they are not, by themselves, independent verification of the company’s present-day production or environmental impact.
