Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteAs of August 9, 2026, Amazon’s old Archive Order feature is no longer a dependable way to hide a purchase from someone who shares your Amazon login. Amazon has phased out the archive function and returned previously archived purchases to the normal order history. There is also no ordinary customer-facing option to delete an individual Amazon order.
The reliable fix for future purchases is to stop sharing one login. Use two separate adult Amazon accounts and link them through Amazon Family, formerly called Amazon Household. That keeps each adult’s order history separate while allowing limited sharing of Prime benefits. It does not erase an order already placed on the old shared account, and it cannot prevent every other leak, such as Alexa announcements, email notifications, packaging, or a shared payment statement.
The details below are primarily for Amazon.com in the United States. Amazon Family eligibility, names, benefits, and menu locations may differ in other countries.
What happened to Amazon’s Archive Order feature?
Archive Order used to remove a purchase from the default Your Orders list and place it in a separate Archived Orders view. It was never true deletion: anyone with access to the account could potentially find the archived purchase.

Amazon phased out the feature during 2025 rather than removing it from every account on one confirmed universal date. In a May 2025 response on its customer forum, an Amazon representative told customers that orders could no longer be archived and recommended using Amazon Family for separate order histories. Amazon also displayed a notice saying the separate Archived Orders view would be removed effective August 19, 2025.
Amazon’s current help material says previously archived orders can be located through the ordinary Your Orders area, including by searching or filtering by purchase date. The wording and rollout timing may have varied by account, but the practical result is the same: old desktop instructions that tell you to click Archive Order should not be treated as current instructions. See Amazon’s forum response about the removed archive control and its current help guidance for finding archived orders.
Bottom line: Amazon offers organization and retrieval tools for past purchases, not a normal control to delete one order from the account’s transaction history. Do not assume customer service can manually erase it.
The dependable workaround: separate adult accounts through Amazon Family
Amazon Family is not simply a second profile inside one Amazon login. The privacy benefit comes from using separate adult Amazon accounts with separate email addresses, passwords, and sessions.
Amazon says adult members using their own individual accounts cannot see one another’s orders or content. One adult can share many Prime benefits with one additional adult in the same household. Amazon Family itself is free to set up, but one adult generally needs an active Prime membership for the Prime benefits to be shared. The exact benefits can change and may include shipping, selected deals, Prime Video, selected digital content, and other programs.
Separate account + Amazon Family = separate adult order histories.
Separate-looking profile under one shared login = not the same privacy protection.
Set up Amazon Family on the website
- Sign in to the existing Prime account.
- Select Accounts & Lists.
- Select Your Account.
- Open Your Amazon Family.
- Choose Add Adult.
- Enter the other adult’s name and email address.
- Send the invitation.
- Have the invited adult accept it using that person’s own Amazon account.
After the invitation is accepted, each adult should shop while signed in to their own account—not by continuing to use the old shared username and password.
Set it up in the Amazon Shopping app
- Open the Me tab.
- Select Your Account.
- Select Manage Your Amazon Family.
- Choose Add Adult.
- Send the invitation or follow the account-verification flow.
- Have the other adult accept the invitation with their own Amazon credentials.
Amazon’s current setup instructions and labels are described in its Amazon Family guide. App and website labels can change, so if a menu is not visible, use the account search or help function rather than relying on an old Archive Order tutorial.

- Confirm that each adult has a different email address and password.
- Sign out of the old shared account on shared browsers, phones, and tablets.
- Check the active account name or email immediately before checkout.
- Remove the shared account’s saved password from a browser if another person can open it.
- Check Amazon’s Sharing settings and decide which programs or content should be shared.
- On shared Echo devices, review which Amazon accounts are linked and which shopping notifications are enabled.
A harmless test—such as checking the account identity before placing a routine order—is safer than discovering after buying a gift that the purchase was made under the old shared account.

Important limitations to understand first
Amazon Family does not separate old orders
If a gift or personal purchase was already placed on the shared account, joining Amazon Family afterward does not move it to a new private account. The old order remains associated with the shared account and may continue to appear in its normal order history.
Amazon Family is a forward-looking solution:
- Before ordering: use the correct adult account linked through Amazon Family, and the order should remain in that account’s history rather than the other adult’s.
- After ordering on the shared account: linking the accounts does not migrate, erase, or retroactively hide the purchase.
There is only one additional adult for many Prime benefits
Amazon’s current U.S. structure generally supports one primary adult plus one additional adult for many shared Prime benefits. Up to four children can also be included, but child profiles are not equivalent to private adult shopping accounts.
Do not confuse this limit with other Amazon Family sharing limits, such as limits associated with Amazon Photos. A household with three or more adults who all need separate private order histories cannot give every adult that privacy through one Amazon Family group and one Prime membership.
Adults generally must live in the same household
Amazon’s U.S. guidance says adult members must be at least 18 and live in the same household. Amazon Family may therefore not be appropriate for a friend, a long-distance relative, or a college student living elsewhere. Amazon also ended the older Prime Invitee sharing program for people outside the household on October 1, 2025, directing those users toward Amazon Family or their own Prime membership. That change concerns Prime sharing; it does not turn an old shared-account order into a private one.
Children and teen arrangements are different
Child profiles are managed by adults and are not a substitute for a private adult shopping account. Amazon says children cannot shop independently through child profiles, while teen shopping arrangements, where available, may provide supervising adults with itemized order details. For an adult who needs a separate shopping history, use Add Adult and that person’s own Amazon account.
If the order is already on the shared account
Use this order of operations. The right choice depends on whether the order has entered fulfillment and how important the privacy concern is.
1. Check whether Amazon still allows cancellation
Open Your Orders, select the purchase, and look for Cancel items. Cancellation is order-specific. Once Amazon or a third-party seller has begun processing or shipping the order, the option may no longer be available.
If cancellation is available, confirm the item, price, seller, payment method, and delivery date before canceling. Then place a replacement order from the correct private adult account. Availability, discounts, coupons, seller, and delivery timing may have changed, so verify the replacement order before assuming the first one is safely out of the way.
2. If cancellation is unavailable, reduce accidental exposure
These measures limit secondary ways someone might discover the purchase. They do not remove the order from the shared account’s history.

For a high-stakes purchase, buying the item from another retailer or placing a new order through a truly separate Amazon account may be less risky than trying to conceal a purchase already tied to the shared login.
Close the other privacy leaks
Alexa can announce the item
Even if the order history is separate, a linked Echo device can expose shopping activity. Amazon’s current guidance gives this path:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Alexa app → More → Settings → Notifications → Amazon Shopping
Turn off the setting that allows Alexa to say or show item titles in shopping notifications. The exact wording of the toggle may vary. Amazon notes that linked accounts can generate notifications through shared Alexa devices, and each relevant account may need its own notification settings changed. See Amazon’s guidance on hiding gift orders and Alexa notifications.
This setting does not hide the order from Your Orders, the purchaser’s email, a bank statement, the delivery package, or anyone who can access the purchaser’s private account.
Email and push notifications can reveal the purchase
Order confirmations, shipping updates, delivery alerts, delivery photos, return notices, and refund messages may expose a purchase even when another adult cannot see the order history. Use a private email address where possible, keep notifications off shared devices, and check whether a shared tablet or phone is still signed in to the purchasing account.
Recommended Free Tools
Deleting an email or dismissing a push notification only removes that copy or alert. It does not delete the Amazon order record.
Browsing history and recommendations can give away the item
A shared browser session can leave the product visible in Amazon’s browsing history, recently viewed products, recommendations, lists, or Buy Again section. Remove the item from those surfaces where Amazon provides a control, and do not browse for the gift in a shared Amazon session.
Use a separate browser profile, private device, or private session where practical. A separate Amazon account will not help much if both people remain logged into that account on the same device and can freely switch into it.

Packaging may reveal what is inside
Some Amazon products are shipped in packaging that identifies the contents. At checkout, look for Ship in Amazon packaging or similar packaging choices. Amazon says the option is available at no extra cost for most qualifying products, but it is not universal. Selecting a gift option may also cause an item to be placed in Amazon packaging; gift wrapping may cost extra and is not available for every product.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsAmazon’s packaging guidance is available here. Concealed packaging protects the physical surprise, not the digital order history or payment record.
Use a pickup location instead of a shared front door
Amazon Locker can prevent a package from arriving at a shared home. Add an eligible Locker to the address book, select it at checkout, and retrieve the package using the code, barcode, or Amazon Shopping app. Locker pickup is free, but not every item qualifies.
Amazon’s published general eligibility guidelines say the item generally must:
- Weigh less than 10 pounds;
- Be smaller than 16 × 12 × 14 inches; and
- Be sold or fulfilled by Amazon.
The package is generally held for three calendar days. If it is not collected, Amazon automatically returns it and issues a refund. These are general requirements, not a guarantee for every location or product. Check the available pickup location during checkout. See Amazon’s Amazon Locker instructions and eligibility information.
A shared card can still reveal the charge
Separate Amazon order histories do not necessarily create complete financial privacy. A shared credit or debit card may show an Amazon charge and its amount on the statement, even if it does not identify the exact item.
Use a private payment method when financial privacy matters. Payment sharing and wallet-verification behavior can vary by account and the current Amazon Family setup flow, so inspect the payment and sharing screens before accepting an invitation. Amazon Family’s core promise is separate adult account and order visibility—not hidden bank or credit-card activity.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Alternatives when Amazon Family is not suitable
Use a completely separate Amazon account
You can create or use a second Amazon account without linking it to Amazon Family. The trade-off is that it may not receive the main account’s Prime benefits. Depending on eligibility and cost, the purchaser may use standard shipping, pay for a separate Prime membership, or use a genuinely available promotional or free trial. Trials and promotional pricing are not permanent or universal, so do not rely on them as a guaranteed solution.
A private payment method and private email address make this option more effective when the concern includes financial or email privacy.

Buy from another retailer
For a one-time gift, another retailer may be the simplest answer. This is particularly useful when:
- The Amazon Family additional-adult slot is already occupied;
- More than two adults need separate shopping histories;
- The other people do not live in the same household;
- Complete payment privacy matters; or
- The Amazon order is already too far along to cancel.
Ship directly to the recipient
Direct shipping removes the problem of hiding a box at home, but it does not hide the order from someone who shares the purchaser’s Amazon login or email. It solves a delivery-location problem, not an account-history problem.
Use a gift card or another purchasing account carefully
A gift card or another person’s purchasing account may separate some payment activity, but each has drawbacks. A redeemed gift-card balance remains associated with the account where it was redeemed. A shared card may still reveal the charge. Another person’s account can complicate returns, warranties, refunds, and customer-service access. Account ownership and two-factor authentication should remain with the actual purchaser whenever possible.
Do not waste time on these supposed fixes
- Old Archive Order tutorials: Desktop and app instructions written before the 2025 phaseout may describe controls that no longer exist.
- Direct archive URLs: Some third-party pages and forum posts describe manually constructed URLs. Reports are contradictory: a method may appear to work temporarily, then fail after a refresh or after the archive view is removed. Amazon does not currently endorse these methods.
- Browser scripts and extensions: A tool that changes what appears on one device is not the same as removing the purchase from Amazon’s account record. It may be temporary, account-dependent, or create security and privacy risks.
- Customer-service deletion promises: Amazon’s public guidance supports finding and filtering orders, not deleting an individual transaction from the normal history. Do not plan around a support agent manually erasing it.
- Packaging or Locker pickup as an order-history solution: These protect the physical delivery or the contents of a box. They do not hide the online order.
Privacy checklist before placing a surprise order
- Check the account: Verify the private adult account is active before adding the item to the cart and again before checkout.
- Use private contact details: Prefer a private email address and device for confirmations and delivery alerts.
- Review payment: Avoid a shared card if the amount or merchant activity could reveal the surprise.
- Silence Alexa: Disable Amazon Shopping item-title announcements on shared Echo devices.
- Choose packaging carefully: Select Amazon packaging or a gift option if the product and checkout support it.
- Control delivery: Use an eligible Locker, Counter, or another pickup location instead of a shared front door.
- Check recommendations: Keep the product out of shared browsing history, recently viewed items, lists, and Buy Again surfaces.
- Protect the session: Sign out of shared browsers and remove saved passwords for the purchasing account.
- Check notifications: Review push alerts, delivery photos, email inboxes, and shared tablets or phones.

| Two adults in the same household need privacy for future Amazon orders | Use separate adult accounts linked through Amazon Family. |
| An existing order is still cancellable | Use Your Orders → Cancel items, confirm cancellation, then reorder from the private account. |
| An existing order has shipped | Use a Locker or pickup location where eligible, choose concealed packaging where offered, and disable notifications that reveal item names. |
| More than two adults need separate order histories | Use separate Amazon accounts with separate Prime arrangements, or buy from another retailer. |
| The people sharing benefits do not live together | Use separate accounts; Amazon Family may not meet the same-household requirement. |
| Payment privacy is essential | Use a private account, private email, and private payment method. Amazon Family alone does not hide card or bank activity. |
| An old archive URL appears to work | Do not rely on it. Treat it as unsupported and temporary unless the order remains hidden after refreshing and checking the account normally. |
The practical answer
Amazon no longer gives shared-login users a dependable way to hide or delete one order. The long-term fix is to separate the accounts before shopping: one adult Amazon account per adult, linked through Amazon Family when the household and adult-limit rules fit.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For an order already placed on the shared account, first try cancellation and a private reorder. Amazon Family is therefore a solution for future order privacy, not a retroactive cleanup tool.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Amazon delete one order from my order history?
Amazon does not provide a normal customer-facing control to delete an individual order from the account’s history. Current help material explains how to find and filter past purchases, not how to erase them. Do not assume customer service can manually remove a transaction.
Will Amazon Family hide an order I already placed?
No. Amazon Family keeps future adult orders separate when each person uses a different Amazon account, but it does not move, erase, or retroactively hide an order placed on the old shared account.
Do Amazon Family members use one shared profile?
No. The privacy protection depends on separate adult Amazon accounts, email addresses, passwords, and account sessions. A separate-looking profile inside one shared login does not provide the same protection.
Can I still use an old Amazon archive-order URL?
Some unofficial methods may appear to work temporarily, but Amazon does not currently endorse them and reports are inconsistent. They can fail after a refresh or after the Archived Orders view was removed. They are not a dependable privacy solution.
The Bottom Line
Amazon’s Archive Order feature is no longer a reliable way to hide a purchase. For future privacy, use separate adult Amazon accounts linked through Amazon Family if both adults live together and the one-additional-adult limit works for your household. For an existing shared-account order, cancellation and private reordering are the cleanest options; otherwise, control Alexa, email, browsing history, packaging, delivery, and payment exposure without expecting any of those steps to delete the order record.
