Are the Washington job cuts part of Amazon’s larger layoffs?
Amazon told GeekWire that the Washington separations resulted from individual business decisions and were unrelated to the 14,000 global corporate job reductions announced in October 2025. That is Amazon’s characterization as reported by GeekWire; the Washington notice itself does not explain how the action relates to the October announcement.

Amazon spokesperson Brad Glasser told GeekWire: “We’ve informed a relatively small number of employees that their roles will be eliminated as the result of individual business decisions,” and “We don’t make decisions like this lightly.”

When were the Washington separations scheduled?
Amazon’s notice, dated Dec. 13, 2025, anticipated separations between Feb. 2 and Feb. 23, 2026. It said affected employees received at least 89 days’ notice and described the separations as expected to be permanent, subject to the transfer condition in the notice.

The notice establishes a planned count and schedule, not how many employees ultimately left. It does not verify that all 84 planned separations took place.
Which Washington employees and locations were covered?
The filing identified Amazon offices in Seattle and Bellevue and six affected remote employees residing in Washington. It listed a mix of office, technical and management positions, including software development engineers, program managers, recruiting and human resources roles, UX designers, product and science roles, and management positions.

Could an internal transfer prevent a separation?
Yes. The notice says: “Affected employees who accept internal transfer opportunities at Amazon prior to their separation date will not be separated as a result of this action.” The stated exception means the planned count should not be read as a confirmed count of employees who were ultimately separated.
What support did Amazon say affected employees would receive?
Amazon told GeekWire that affected employees would receive 90 days of full pay and benefits, transitional health coverage, and job placement services.

Why did Amazon file the notice?
GeekWire reported that the notice was required under a new Washington disclosure requirement covering terminations within 90 days of a prior notice under the state’s “mini” WARN law. The filing provides the planned separations and schedule; the reported explanation of the notice requirement comes from GeekWire.
