That is not a complete count of every manufacturer’s commitments. A separate $50.8 billion figure covered a broader set of aircraft deals, while ADS Group’s 531 orders refers to the entire month of July—not just the show.
What was announced at Farnborough in 2022?
Farnborough International’s retrospective counted 277 confirmed aircraft orders and 81 options announced by Airbus and Boeing combined during the show. The organizer does not present that as a comprehensive, all-manufacturer tally of every order, option, and commitment announced during show week. Farnborough International’s 3 August 2022 retrospective is the source for that combined Airbus-and-Boeing count.
ADS Group reported 277 aircraft ordered during the airshow week, a figure with a broader stated scope than the organizer’s Airbus-and-Boeing confirmed-order count. The two numbers happen to match, but their definitions differ; they should not be treated as interchangeable measures or added together. The available official figures do not establish a reconciled final total broken down by every manufacturer and deal status.
Why do reports cite both 277 and 531 orders?
The figures cover different periods. ADS Group reported 277 aircraft ordered during airshow week and 531 aircraft orders across July 2022. The monthly total includes orders made after the show, so it is inaccurate to say Farnborough generated all 531.

ADS said July’s order book comprised 526 single-aisle aircraft and five wide-body aircraft. It also attributed about 80% of the monthly total to a large order later in July. These are ADS’s figures for the full month, not an airshow-only breakdown. ADS Group’s July 2022 orders and deliveries report gives the monthly context.
What does the $50.8 billion deal figure include?
Farnborough International quoted ADS Group CEO Kevin Craven describing $50.8 billion in total aircraft deals across the show. His description explicitly includes firm deals, options, and commitments, and covers business and regional jets as well as other aircraft. It is therefore a broader deal-value measure, not the value of the 277 confirmed Airbus and Boeing orders alone. The organizer’s retrospective records Craven’s scope and wording: Farnborough International, 3 August 2022.

Aircraft counts and deal values answer different questions. An order count tells how many aircraft were associated with a defined period or announcement category; a deal value combines aircraft transactions with differing statuses and aircraft types. The reported $50.8 billion should not be converted into an average value per confirmed order using the 277 figure.
Selected regional-aircraft announcements
ATR’s 21 July 2022 announcement illustrates why the status of each deal matters. Its wording distinguishes orders from plans and expressions of interest:

- Abelo: ATR said Abelo was set to acquire 20 aircraft, including 10 short-take-off-and-landing ATR 42-600S. The announcement’s prospective wording should not be recast as a confirmed order.
- Feel Air: ATR said the prospective airline was looking to operate up to 36 ATR aircraft. This is an expressed fleet plan, not a firm order count.
These examples come from ATR’s Farnborough Airshow announcement, dated 21 July 2022. They illustrate regional-aircraft activity but do not supply a complete show-wide tally.

| Figure | What it counts | Source and scope |
|---|---|---|
| 277 confirmed orders, plus 81 options | Announcements by Airbus and Boeing combined; options are separate from confirmed orders. | Farnborough International, 2022 retrospective. |
| 277 aircraft ordered | Orders during airshow week, as reported by ADS Group. | ADS Group’s July 2022 report; show-week scope. |
| 531 aircraft orders | Orders over the full month of July 2022, including orders placed after the show; ADS reported 526 single-aisle and five wide-body aircraft. | ADS Group’s July 2022 report. |
| $50.8 billion | Total aircraft deals across the show, including firm orders, options, and commitments and including business and regional jets. | ADS Group CEO Kevin Craven, quoted in Farnborough International’s 2022 retrospective. |
For the same reason, ATR’s stated acquisition plans and prospective fleet interests should not be folded into a confirmed-order count unless a source explicitly classifies them as firm orders. The official sources cited here provide useful but differently scoped figures, not a single harmonized ledger of all manufacturers and deal statuses.
