No October 31, 2026 extension is confirmed in the latest reports reviewed. Radio Pakistan reported that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) extended the Tax Year 2026 deadline for filers whose returns were due September 30 to October 15, 2026. The October 31 date was requested by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), not reported as an approved FBR decision.
What is the latest reported deadline for Tax Year 2026?
For taxpayers whose Tax Year 2026 returns were originally due September 30, the latest reported deadline is October 15, 2026. Radio Pakistan reported the 15-day extension on October 1, 2026: FBR extends tax return filing deadline to October 15.
Dawn reported the same October 15 extension and said FPCCI had asked FBR to move the deadline to October 31. A request is not an extension: the report does not establish that FBR approved the October 31 date. See Dawn’s report on the extension and request.
Who does the October 15 date apply to?
The reported extension covers filers whose original Tax Year 2026 due date was September 30. FBR’s general due-date guidance lists different baseline dates by category:

These general dates are from FBR’s Income Tax due dates guidance. The available report does not reproduce the full text of the 2026 extension notice, so taxpayers with an unusual filing category should verify the current FBR notice directly.
Why is October 31 being mentioned?
October 31 was the final extended deadline for Tax Year 2025, but that earlier decision does not establish the deadline for Tax Year 2026. FBR first said on September 29, 2025 that the Tax Year 2025 deadline would not be extended; it then extended the deadline to October 15 and later to October 31. The final notice cited section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. The prior-year timeline is documented in FBR’s September 29, 2025 statement and October 15, 2025 extension announcement.

That sequence also shows why an extension should be treated as confirmed only after FBR announces it. The 2025 statement was specific to that tax year and that moment: it is not evidence of FBR’s position on the 2026 deadline.

How to verify your deadline and file
- Identify your tax year and filing category. Check whether your return’s original due date was September 30 or another date.
- Check FBR’s current notice. Use the FBR homepage at fbr.gov.pk and look for a newer Tax Year 2026 announcement. The general due-date page is useful for category baselines, but an extension notice may change a specific deadline.
- Use IRIS for online filing. FBR identifies its IRIS platform as the online route for filing returns. Confirm the deadline that applies to your category before relying on a date reported elsewhere.
