Southampton said it had signed the winger on a four-year deal. A later Football Association register entry lists an “Updated Contract” for Fellows under West Brom, but that unexplained listing does not establish that he returned to the club. The available announcements do not confirm his club or contract status as of 8 October 2026.
What was Tom Fellows’s West Brom contract?
On 26 January 2024, West Brom announced that its academy product had signed a three-and-a-half-year contract extension. The club said the deal would keep him there at least through summer 2027. West Brom did not publish his salary or detailed contract clauses. West Brom’s announcement quoted Fellows saying, “I feel this is the right place for me to develop and keep improving as a player.”
Why did Fellows leave West Brom?
West Brom announced on 29 August 2025 that Fellows had joined fellow Championship club Southampton for an undisclosed fee. Southampton separately confirmed his signing from West Brom and said he had agreed a four-year deal. The clubs’ announcements establish the transfer and the announced term, but neither discloses the fee. Southampton did not state an exact expiry date; 2029 is only the ordinary inference from a four-year term beginning in August 2025, not a published expiry date.
Southampton described Fellows as a right-winger and quoted Group Technical Director Johannes Spors calling him “a really exciting player, very direct with lots of pace.” Fellows described the move as “a new challenge” and said he was looking forward to testing himself again. Southampton’s signing announcement contains both statements.

What was Fellows’s record at West Brom?
Southampton’s 2025 announcement said Fellows joined West Brom at Under-10 level, progressed through its academy and made his first-team debut against Arsenal at age 18. The club reported that he made 38 League Two appearances on loan at Crawley Town in 2022/23, was West Brom Young Player of the Year in each of the previous two seasons, and recorded a league-high 14 Championship assists “last term.” Southampton counted 96 appearances and nine goals for West Brom at departure; West Brom described the total as just shy of 100 appearances, also with nine goals. These are figures published by the clubs, not independent statistical verification. Southampton’s account and West Brom’s departure notice provide their respective figures.
Why does an FA register list an updated West Brom contract?
An FA agent-transactions register published on 1 April 2026 lists “Tom Allen Fellows — Updated Contract” under West Brom for its 2025–26 reporting period, covering transactions from 4 February 2025 through 2 February 2026. That entry is unexplained and appears inconsistent with the clubs’ announcements that Fellows transferred to Southampton on 29 August 2025. The register says its information is supplied for regulatory purposes and does not guarantee its accuracy, reliability or completeness. It therefore should not be treated as proof that Fellows signed a new West Brom deal or returned to the club. No reviewed source reconciles the discrepancy. What is confirmed about Fellows’s status now?
The confirmed public timeline is West Brom’s January 2024 extension followed by the clubs’ August 2025 transfer announcements. Those sources do not independently establish which club Fellows represents or the status of his contract on 8 October 2026. The register entry does not resolve that question.
