The company describes its role as extending from planning and design to environmental assessment, construction oversight, and program management. Its published impact figures suggest broad activity, but they are company-reported measures—not an independent assessment of how much change its projects caused.
What Tetra Tech does in infrastructure
Tetra Tech describes itself as a global consulting and engineering services provider focused on water, environment, and sustainable infrastructure. Its 2026 Sustainability Report says the company works on 110,000 projects annually and operates in 125 countries. These figures describe the company’s reported scale, not independently evaluated project outcomes. Tetra Tech’s 2026 Sustainability Report
In international development, the company lists clean drinking water and sanitation, roads and bridges, health clinics, schools, government buildings, and reliable energy among its areas of work. Its services can cover more than engineering design: the company also identifies construction monitoring, environmental and social impact assessment, resettlement support, local capacity building, and program management. Tetra Tech’s international development overview
Project design, according to the company, takes account of local standards, materials, labor capacity, social and environmental considerations, and vulnerable populations. That context matters: a design that works technically may not be practical to build, operate, or maintain in a particular community.

How projects can affect communities beyond construction
Infrastructure’s practical value depends on whether people can use it and whether it keeps working. Tetra Tech says it works with local governments and institutions to build financial and managerial capacity for operations and maintenance after donor-funded construction. That is a sustainability mechanism the company says it uses; the cited material does not provide a cross-project evaluation establishing how successful it has been over time.
For readers assessing a project’s development contribution, it helps to distinguish the physical asset from the services and systems around it. A water facility, for example, is not the same thing as reliable access to safe water: operating capacity, maintenance, local management, and the people who can reach the service all matter. Similarly, transport or energy infrastructure can have different effects depending on its location, intended users, and relationship to existing networks.
What Tetra Tech reports about its impact
Tetra Tech’s 2025 Sustainability Report says its 1 Billion People Challenge aligns five impact measures with selected United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The report’s figures below describe additions associated with 2024 and cumulative totals from the company’s baseline. The measures are different kinds of outcomes and should not be combined into a single score. Tetra Tech’s 2025 Sustainability Report
| Measure | Added in 2024 | Cumulative total |
|---|---|---|
| Lives improved | 29.3 million people | 654.3 million people |
| Water impact | 176.9 billion gallons per year | 4.93 trillion gallons |
| Renewable energy impact | 1,411,722 megawatts per year | 1,550,326 megawatts |
| Ecosystem impact | 6.04 million hectares per year | 196.8 million hectares |
| Greenhouse-gas reduction impact | 5.1 million metric tons of CO2e per year | 158.7 million metric tons of CO2e |
The report describes water measures as water treated, saved, or reused; renewable-energy measures as energy generated or transmitted; and ecosystem measures as areas protected, managed, or restored. The figures are Tetra Tech’s reported measures, not proof that the company alone caused the stated outcomes. They also are not directly comparable: gallons, megawatts, hectares, emissions, and people measure different things.

Examples across transportation and energy
Tetra Tech’s project pages illustrate the range of work it says it performs. The examples show different sectors and roles; they do not establish a common outcome measure or make the projects directly comparable.
Transportation: highways, bridges, and multimodal planning
- Inuvik Tuktoyaktuk Highway: Tetra Tech says it participated in the highway’s development through an Indigenous business partnership.
- Montréal’s original Champlain Bridge: The company describes leading its deconstruction, with responsibilities involving structural safety and environmental protection.
- Boston Allston Multimodal Project: Tetra Tech says it is leading a multi-consultant team. The company’s page lists the project at $1.9 billion; that is the project value stated on the page, not a measure of Tetra Tech’s contract value or the project’s achieved benefits.
These descriptions are from Tetra Tech’s transportation overview. They identify the company’s stated participation and responsibilities, not independently validated project outcomes.

Energy: generation, routing, and grid-related services
Tetra Tech’s power and energy overview says it has supported more than 3,500 power projects on six continents; the page does not state a publication year for that count. Its examples include offshore wind studies and environmental work, hydroelectric projects, high-voltage routing and permitting, and grid-related services. This range illustrates the types of work the company describes, but the count alone does not show the projects’ results or Tetra Tech’s precise contribution to each one. A project’s contribution is easier to assess when its role, intended beneficiaries, measurement method, and time period are clear. When reviewing Tetra Tech’s portfolio claims or an individual project, look for:

- Sector and service phase: Was the company designing, assessing, overseeing construction, or managing a program?
- Geography and local context: Which standards, materials, institutions, and operating conditions shaped the work?
- Beneficiaries and involvement: Who was meant to benefit, and how were local stakeholders involved?
- Outcome and unit: Is the claim about people, water, energy, land, or emissions? Keep unlike measures separate.
- Baseline and period: Does the figure describe a new annual addition, a cumulative total, or a project result over a defined period?
- Status and role: Is the project proposed, underway, or completed, and what work did Tetra Tech specifically perform?
- Evidence and attribution: Is the outcome company-reported or independently evaluated, and does the evidence establish the company’s share of the result?
The reviewed corporate reports and project pages provide company-reported measures and descriptions, but do not establish an independent, portfolio-wide causal assessment of the share of outcomes attributable solely to Tetra Tech. That distinction is essential when interpreting large cumulative figures: they indicate what the company reports across its work, not a standalone estimate of its causal impact.
