Epic Games Store’s standard terms let developers keep 100% of the first $1 million in net revenue per product per calendar year from payments Epic processes. Once a title passes that annual threshold, Epic’s standard 88/12 revenue share applies again. The policy is automatic, but it does not eliminate every fee or apply to every payment a game receives.
How much does Epic Games Store take from developers?
Under Epic’s current Developer Revenue Share FAQ, developers receive a 100%/0% share on the first $1 million in net revenue per product per calendar year. Above that amount, the standard split is 88% to the developer and 12% to Epic. Epic describes the threshold in terms of net revenue, not a developer’s gross sales or profit.
Epic Games Store announced the change on May 1, 2025. The Epic Games Store Team said on June 3 that it took effect retroactively from June 1, 2025: developers earn 100% of the first $1 million in net revenue per product, per year for Epic Games Store payments Epic processes. From 2026 onward, the threshold resets each January 1.
Is the $1 million limit per game or per developer?
It is per product, not a shared allowance for a publisher. Each title has its own annual threshold; revenue from a publisher’s other games does not use it up. If a title has multiple publishers, they share that title’s threshold. Transferring a product does not reset the limit.

Epic’s FAQ says qualifying revenue can be combined across PC, Mac, iOS, iPadOS and Android, and includes eligible Web Shop and store offers at the title level. The policy concerns payments Epic processes; it should not be read as covering a game’s sales through every retailer or payment provider.
Who qualifies, and does a developer need to opt in?
Epic says the standard policy applies automatically to games and non-gaming apps on its store that use Epic’s payment system. Developers do not need to opt in. Epic’s self-service publishing tools let developers configure product pages, pricing, offers, builds and updates, and Epic says the store is engine-agnostic, including for Unity-built products. These publishing features are separate from the revenue-share calculation.

What can change the standard terms?
Separate recoupment agreements
If a title has recoupable obligations under a separate agreement with Epic, Epic says it recoups the agreed amount before applying the 100%/0% share. The headline threshold therefore does not erase those contractual obligations.
Epic First Run
Epic First Run is a separate, optional six-month exclusivity program. Eligible products can receive 100% of net revenue during that period regardless of earnings; afterward, standard revenue-share terms apply. Eligibility includes restrictions on prior release on another third-party PC store and on inclusion in another third-party PC-store subscription service. Developers should review Epic’s current First Run rules for the full terms rather than treating the program as part of the standard policy.

What the policy means for a developer’s decision
The 0% store share can improve the share a developer retains on qualifying Epic-processed payments up to the annual per-title cap. It does not, by itself, establish a title’s profit: the calculation does not account for development costs, taxes, other distribution arrangements or other contractual obligations. Epic’s published terms also do not provide a like-for-like comparison with other storefronts, so the policy alone is not enough to conclude which store will produce the best outcome for a particular game.

- Confirm which payment flows Epic processes and how eligible store or Web Shop offers are counted.
- Review any separate recoupment agreement or exclusivity commitment before estimating the amount retained.
