Yes, European sustainability reporting and due-diligence rules remain in force, but the rules have changed. The EU adopted Omnibus I amendments in February 2026 and adopted amended European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) delegated acts in July 2026. Which requirements apply—and when—depends on the company and the relevant rules, not simply on whether it operates in Europe.

Apiday describes tools and expert support for collecting and organizing ESG data. That may help with reporting workflows; it does not determine a company’s legal obligations or guarantee compliance.

What changed in the EU’s ESG rules?

The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) are still part of the EU framework, but their original scope and timetable should not be treated as current without checking the amendments. The European Commission’s roadmap records full adoption of the sustainability Omnibus I package in February 2026. Its CSRD overview also records adoption of amended ESRS delegated acts on 3 July 2026.

Framework What the Commission says Timing or status
CSRD and ESRS Covered companies disclose sustainability-related risks and impacts under ESRS. The framework was subsequently amended through Omnibus I, and amended ESRS delegated acts were adopted. The first reporting cohort applied CSRD to financial year 2024 and reported in 2025. Later applicability and reporting dates must be checked against the amended rules.
CSDDD amendments Directive (EU) 2026/470 amends the CSDDD-related framework. Published in the Official Journal on 26 February 2026; entered into force on 18 March 2026. Member States must transpose the CSDDD amendments by 26 July 2028 and apply them from 26 July 2029. Article 16 reporting measures apply for financial years beginning on or after 1 January 2030.

These dates and the amended standards are described in the Commission’s CSRD overview, competitiveness roadmap and CSDDD overview.

Does your company still need to report under CSRD?

Possibly. The fact that CSRD continues does not mean every company must report. Applicability is company-specific, and the older, pre-amendment descriptions of which companies are covered or when they report may no longer be reliable.

Before planning a reporting cycle, establish the company’s position under the enacted rules. Relevant questions include:

  • Which legal entity or entities are involved, and how are they related within the group?
  • What size and other characteristics are relevant under the amended rules?
  • Which jurisdiction’s rules apply, including any national measures implementing EU requirements?
  • Which financial year and reporting timetable apply to the entity?
  • Is the question about CSRD disclosure, CSDDD due diligence, or both?

The Commission’s overview pages provide the current framework, but the information here is not enough to determine any particular company’s status. A company should check the enacted text and applicable national implementation, and seek qualified legal advice where its position is uncertain.

What Apiday says its platform does

Apiday presents its offering as ESG data-management and reporting support, combining automation with human ESG expertise. Its sustainability-reporting product page describes configurable data-collection campaigns, response tracking, reminders and automated validation intended to flag inconsistent inputs. Its FAQ describes ESG data management and greenhouse-gas assessment as part of the service.

Those are vendor descriptions, not independent findings. The available sources do not establish that Apiday’s platform satisfies a particular company’s legal duties, or independently assess its effectiveness, security, audit outcomes or data handling. A company remains responsible for deciding what it must report and for the accuracy and appropriate review of its disclosures.

How to assess ESG reporting software

Start with the reporting work your company actually needs to complete, then assess whether a tool supports it. Useful evaluation points include:

  • Requirements coverage: Can the platform support the standards and disclosures relevant to your company under the amended framework?
  • Data collection and validation: How does it gather responses, identify missing or inconsistent information, and let staff correct errors?
  • Traceability and review: Can the company connect reported figures to their sources and maintain an appropriate review trail?
  • Expert support: What assistance is provided, by whom, and what remains the company’s responsibility?
  • Security and data handling: What protections, access controls and handling terms are documented for your organization?
  • Implementation and updates: What effort is required to set up the workflow, and how are changes to applicable rules and standards reflected?

Apiday’s published product information supports discussion of campaign collection, response tracking, reminders, automated validation and expert support. The sources do not establish comparative performance against other providers, so request detailed product documentation and assess it against your own requirements rather than treating feature descriptions as proof of compliance.

What the Commission’s cost estimate does—and does not—mean

In an announcement dated 1 April 2025, the European Commission estimated that proposed changes to CSRD scope and standards could reduce administrative costs by approximately €4.4 billion annually. That was a proposal-era estimate, not a measurement of savings realized under the final law. The Commission’s announcement described the package’s intent as focusing rules on the largest companies while reducing compliance complexity; it should not be read as evidence that the resulting rules impose no obligations. See the Commission’s Omnibus announcement.
