Supercell transferred Everdale to Metacore in January 2023 after ending its own development. Metacore explored a possible new version but did not promise a relaunch. In September 2024, it said it was stopping development and returning the game’s intellectual property (IP) to Supercell. The 2023 “second chance” was a fresh development effort—not a confirmed release—and the official sources cited here do not establish whether Supercell later revived the game.
What happened to Everdale?
Everdale changed hands after Supercell decided to end its development. Metacore then assessed whether it could reshape the game into a viable project, but ultimately discontinued its work.
| Date | Development | What it meant |
|---|---|---|
| October 3, 2022 | Supercell announced it was ending development. | The company said the game did not meet its ambitions for a Supercell title. It planned to shut the servers on October 31, 2022, at 10:00 UTC. Eligible purchases could be transferred to other live Supercell games through player support at that time; that was a historical offer, not evidence of a current support option. | January 26–27, 2023 | Supercell announced a transfer to Metacore; Metacore described its plans. | The new team began exploring what might need to change, including whether the game could find an audience and fit the market. Supercell’s transfer announcement · Metacore’s account |
| September 18, 2024 | Metacore announced it would stop development and return the IP to Supercell. | Metacore said it could not find a way to improve the game’s market fit and make it a sustainable business. Metacore’s discontinuation announcement |
What did the “second chance” mean?
Metacore’s acquisition gave Everdale another development effort, not a guaranteed path back to players. CEO Mika Tammenkoski said the company was testing hypotheses about the game’s audience and market fit. He also cautioned that Metacore could not promise which projects would become live games or what form they might take. Metacore’s January 2023 statement
In a contemporaneous interview, GamesBeat described Metacore’s plan as recreating Everdale as a free-to-play mobile game focused on building and team play. That description was an account of the proposed direction, not confirmation that a rebuilt version launched. GamesBeat’s interview

Why did Metacore stop development?
Metacore said its team explored the game’s world and player community, spoke with players, and tested ways to strengthen its market fit. It concluded that it could not find a path to improve that fit and make Everdale a sustainable business. Those are the company’s stated reasons; its announcement does not provide financial figures or a quantified analysis of the game’s prospects. Metacore’s September 2024 announcement

The latest directly relevant official status identified here is Metacore’s September 18, 2024 announcement that it was ending development and returning the IP to Supercell. The reviewed official announcements do not settle whether Supercell later revived Everdale. That uncertainty is not proof that a revival never happened; it means a current release or availability should not be treated as confirmed on the basis of these announcements.
