Everton’s takeover by The Friedkin Group was completed in December 2024. The latest behind-the-scenes report is about manager David Moyes’s contact with owner Dan Friedkin—not a confirmed new sale or a verified Deloitte appointment. Moyes said in September 2026 that he had never met or spoken to Friedkin since returning to the club in January 2025.
What is the latest Everton takeover update?
The ownership change readers may associate with a takeover is already complete: Roundhouse Capital Holdings Limited, part of The Friedkin Group, acquired Everton on 19 December 2024 after regulatory approval. The current point of interest is a governance question raised by Moyes’s account of his communication with Friedkin. That statement does not establish who makes every club decision or mean that a new takeover is under way.
BBC Sport reported on 5 September 2026 that Moyes said he had not met or spoken to Friedkin since returning as manager in January 2025. The report raised questions about responsibility for key decisions after a difficult transfer window, but Moyes’s statement alone does not describe Everton’s full internal decision-making structure. Who bought Everton, and what did the approval cover?
The Premier League announced the completion on 19 December 2024. Its approval statement said the Board approved The Friedkin Group’s acquisition of an 98.8% stake following the Owners’ and Directors’ Test, with the decision ratified by an Independent Oversight Panel. The official club and league announcement identified Roundhouse Capital Holdings Limited as the acquiring entity and said the deal followed an agreement with Farhad Moshiri’s Blue Heaven Holdings for the sale of its majority stake.

There are two different stake figures in contemporaneous accounts, and they should not be treated as interchangeable: the league’s regulatory announcement gives 98.8%, while BBC Sport reported a 99.5% resulting holding after debt-to-equity conversions. BBC also said the transaction was believed to be worth more than £400 million; that was a reported estimate, not an officially disclosed purchase price. Its account described the new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium as having 52,888 seats.

Is Deloitte taking charge of Everton?
No current Deloitte appointment is established by the available reporting. A search-result excerpt of a LinkedIn post by Robert Howells associates Deloitte’s Sports M&A team with an earlier role as lead sell-side adviser to Moshiri in the proposed transaction with 777 Partners. That proposal did not become Everton’s completed takeover.

The completed 2024 transaction was with Roundhouse Capital Holdings Limited, within The Friedkin Group. The available material does not establish that Deloitte is running Everton, advising Friedkin on a current sale, or holding a current mandate. Treat “Deloitte take charge” as unverified unless the club, Deloitte, the league, or a directly attributed on-record source confirms a new role. The Deloitte attribution here comes from secondary evidence: Robert Howells’s LinkedIn post.
How the two sale stories differ
| Transaction | Buyer | Status | What the evidence says about Deloitte |
|---|---|---|---|
| Proposed sale before the Friedkin takeover | 777 Partners | Proposed; it did not complete | A secondary LinkedIn excerpt says Deloitte’s Sports M&A team advised Moshiri on the sell side. |
| Completed takeover in 2024 | Roundhouse Capital Holdings Limited, within The Friedkin Group | Completed on 19 December 2024 after Premier League approval | No current Deloitte mandate is established by the sources cited here. |
Who is responsible for running the club?
When the takeover was announced, Marc Watts was identified as Everton’s incoming Executive Chairman and as responsible for management. Watts said the acquisition marked “a momentous and proud occasion” for The Friedkin Group and described providing immediate financial stability as a key priority. That is a statement about the announced leadership arrangement in December 2024; it does not, by itself, settle how every decision is handled now.

Moyes’s September 2026 account raises a question about his direct contact with the owner, but it is not proof that Friedkin has no involvement or that another person controls all football decisions. Those broader conclusions would require evidence beyond the reported exchange. The Premier League’s takeover announcement

As of 6 September 2026, an independent analysis by Paul Quinn reported that no sale had been announced, agreed, or confirmed. This is a dated finding, not a guarantee about what may happen afterward, and it is not an official club announcement. Paul Quinn’s analysis, published 6 September 2026
