A 2019 report described a judge rejecting a challenge to Damian Hurley and Kira Bing’s eligibility as beneficiaries of Peter Bing’s trust. It did not report a distribution.

The headline refers to a reported Los Angeles ruling in July 2019: Damian Hurley and Kira Bing remained beneficiaries of a trust established by their grandfather, Peter Bing. The report describes an eligibility dispute over what “grandchild” meant in the trust; it does not say either beneficiary received money or establish the trust’s current status.

What the 2019 report said

Yahoo Entertainment published its account on July 19, 2019, attributing the reporting to the Daily Mail. It said a Los Angeles judge had ruled earlier that week that Damian Hurley and Kira Bing remained beneficiaries of Peter Bing’s trust. A trustee had challenged their eligibility.

That is a report of beneficiary status, not a report that assets were distributed. The article does not establish when a distribution might occur or whether later proceedings changed the trust’s status.

What the dispute was about

According to the report, the trust was established to benefit future grandchildren. A trustee argued that “grandchild” should be read narrowly because the children’s parents were not married when they were born. The judge reportedly rejected that interpretation.

The Yahoo report quotes Judge Daniel Juarez as saying, “There is no ambiguity in the Trusts’ use of the term ”grandchild,’” and that adding restrictive definitions would “unreasonably distort the term’s clear and plain use.” Those words are reproduced in the secondary report; the underlying order and trust documents have not been independently checked.

What the headline does—and does not—mean

  • It means: the 2019 report said Damian and Kira remained eligible beneficiaries after a trustee challenged their eligibility.
  • It does not mean: either person had already received an inheritance. The report discusses beneficiary status, not a completed payment or transfer.
  • It does not establish: the trust’s current terms or status, the timing or value of any future distribution, or whether there were later court proceedings.

How much of the ruling can be verified

The available account is Yahoo Entertainment’s secondary report, which attributes its story to the Daily Mail. The original Los Angeles order and trust documents were not available in that report’s materials, so the full wording, scope, and procedural history of the ruling cannot be confirmed from it alone.

The careful takeaway is limited to what the report states: in July 2019, a judge reportedly rejected a trustee’s challenge based on the parents’ marital status and left Damian Hurley and Kira Bing as beneficiaries under the trust. It should not be treated as a general statement of inheritance law; the trust language and full order would be needed to assess the ruling beyond this reported dispute.
