Qatar Airways Group reports the largest overall total: more than 300 aircraft in FY2025/26. But the comparison depends on what counts as a fleet. Qatar’s more specific September 2025 factsheet lists 270 passenger-and-cargo aircraft, while Emirates reported 277 fleet units at 31 March 2026. Etihad reported 128 operating aircraft at the end of February 2026. These figures have different dates and scopes, so they are not a same-day, like-for-like census.
How the three reported fleet counts compare
| Carrier and reporting scope | Reported count | Reporting date | What the count covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Qatar Airways Group | 300+ | FY2025/26, April 2025–March 2026 | Group-level “Number of Aircraft” figure; the annual-report page does not define the exact entities included in the surfaced figure. Qatar Airways 2026 Annual Report |
| Emirates | 277 | 31 March 2026 | Emirates’ reported total fleet count at financial year end. Emirates Group 2025–26 results |
| Qatar Airways passenger and cargo | 270 | September 2025 | Qatar Airways’ factsheet lists this as its current passenger-and-cargo fleet. Qatar Airways Fact Sheet — September 2025 |
| Etihad Airways | 128 | End of February 2026 | Operating fleet, including freighters and short-term ACMI leases. Etihad February 2026 Traffic Statistics |
On the broadest published group-wide figure, Qatar Airways Group is largest. For the most specific airline passenger-and-cargo figure in these disclosures, Emirates’ 277 at March 2026 year end is above Qatar Airways’ 270 in September 2025. Because those dates differ, the latter is a comparison of the latest located figures, not a synchronized ranking.
Why Qatar’s two figures differ
Qatar Airways Group’s annual-report page gives a group-level total of 300+ aircraft for FY2025/26. Its September 2025 factsheet separately reports 270 passenger-and-cargo aircraft and lists 25 Qatar Executive business jets. The factsheet’s separate categories and earlier date mean the 25 business jets should not simply be added to the 270 and presented as a same-date airline fleet total.
The group’s 300+ figure is the clearest answer if “largest fleet” means the total reported by the corporate group. The annual-report page does not specify in the surfaced text exactly which entities are included, so it should not be treated as directly equivalent to an airline operating-fleet count.

What counts as a fleet—and what does not
Operating aircraft versus group totals
A group-wide figure may cover a broader corporate scope than the aircraft operated by one airline. The available Qatar disclosures illustrate that distinction: one gives a group-level number, while another breaks out passenger-and-cargo aircraft and Qatar Executive business jets.
Freighters and leased capacity
Etihad’s February 2026 figure is an operating-fleet count that includes freighters and short-term ACMI leases. ACMI aircraft are provided with crew, maintenance, and insurance; their inclusion makes the reported number broader than a count limited to aircraft owned outright. Etihad’s release does not provide a separate count excluding those aircraft.

Aircraft on order
Emirates reported an order book of 367 aircraft at 31 March 2026, separate from its 277-aircraft fleet. Orders are prospective deliveries, not aircraft already in the reported fleet, and should not be added to the fleet count.

Fleet size answers how many aircraft a company reports within a stated scope and on a stated date. It does not by itself show how frequently an airline flies a particular route, how much capacity is available on a given day, or what a passenger’s experience will be. For a traveler comparing options, check the specific route, schedule, aircraft and fare rather than using the carrier’s total fleet as a proxy for those factors.
