Emirates’ A350 did not enter service in September 2024 as first planned. Its first scheduled commercial flight took off for Edinburgh on 3 January 2025, after aircraft delivery delays pushed back the rollout and changed the timing of several routes. The dates below are historical announcements, not guarantees about which aircraft currently operates a flight.
When did Emirates start flying the A350?
Emirates announced in May 2024 that it expected to begin A350 service in September. Instead, after the first aircraft was delivered in late November, the airline said the first scheduled commercial flight would be to Edinburgh on 3 January 2025. Commercial service began on that date. Emirates’ initial announcement and its delivery announcement establish the change in plan.
Which planned routes were delayed?
The first nine destinations Emirates named on 6 May 2024 were Bahrain, Kuwait, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Colombo, Muscat, Lyon, Bologna and Edinburgh. Bahrain was initially planned as the first A350 route. In June, contemporaneous reporting described a revised rollout: Edinburgh was to take the first position in November, while the dates for other routes shifted. The reported schedule changes included moving Mumbai and Ahmedabad from 27 October 2024 to 1 January 2025, and shifting Muscat, Lyon and Bologna from December to March. These dates describe the schedule revisions reported at the time, not current operations.
After Edinburgh, Emirates’ later account said A350 service began to Kuwait and Bahrain, followed by Mumbai and Ahmedabad in January 2025. The UAE Media Office reported those subsequent deployments; its account does not provide a complete current route list. See the UAE Media Office announcement.

How did the route network expand?
Seven destinations announced in March 2025
On 19 March 2025, Emirates announced plans to add Tunis, Amman, Istanbul, Dammam, Ho Chi Minh City, Baghdad and Oslo to its A350 network. The airline also said it planned more daily A350 flights to Bahrain and Kuwait and an earlier A350 deployment to Bologna. These were announced expansion plans, rather than a blanket assurance about the aircraft on every departure. Emirates’ March 2025 announcement includes the details.
Later schedules for 2026
On 8 January 2026, Emirates announced Taipei A350 service from 1 May 2026 and an additional A350 service to Cape Town from 1 July 2026. Those are dates in the airline’s published schedule announcement. Check the specific flight before booking or departure to confirm its operating aircraft. Read the January 2026 announcement.

Why was the launch delayed?
Contemporaneous reporting linked the changed rollout to aircraft delivery delays. It quoted Emirates saying it would work to minimise the impact once aircraft arrived, and reported Airbus citing persistent supply-chain problems, particularly involving engines, aerostructures and cabin equipment. The available reporting does not establish why each individual route date changed, so it would be misleading to assign a separate cause to each postponement. Emirates described its initial A350-900 configuration as having 312 seats: 32 in Business Class, 21 in Premium Economy and 259 in Economy. That is the airline’s announced configuration for the initial aircraft, not a guarantee that every A350 or route has the same cabin. A route announcement or timetable entry does not guarantee the aircraft type on every future flight; aircraft assignments can change. If a particular cabin matters to your decision, check the operating aircraft and the details Emirates displays for the specific flight close to departure. The airline has described its expansion as a way to reach more destinations and offer more premium-cabin choices; that is its stated aim, not a measured passenger outcome.
