Syngenta expected it to be available the following season. Tendovo’s current label identifies it as EPA Registration No. 100-1684; that label, rather than the 2022 announcement, is the reference for current directions and restrictions.
What Tendovo is and what was registered
Tendovo is a Syngenta herbicide labeled for control of certain grasses and broadleaf weeds in soybeans. The 2022 announcement concerned EPA registration of the product. The product’s current label identifies its registration number as 100-1684.
EPA’s Pesticide Product Label System allows users to search label records by product name, company, active ingredient, or registration number. Check the current record and label before relying on older descriptions: label directions and product availability can change.
Active ingredients and herbicide groups
The current label lists three active ingredients. The formulation amounts below are the percentages on the label; the per-gallon figures are also specified there.

#1 Best Overall
- EXCEPTIONAL TURF SAFETY: Proprietary safener metcamifen in Recognition delivers excellent plant safety on St. Augustinegrass, zoysiagrass, kikuyugrass and buffalograss.
- POWERFUL BROAD-SPECTRUM CONTROL: Applied at 1.29-1.95 oz./acre, Recognition selectively controls sedges (including yellow and puple nutsedge), kyllingas, grasses and broadleaf weeds (dollarweed / lawn pennywort, spotted spurge, wild garlic, carpetweed)
- EXCELLENT TANK MIX PARTNER: Tank mix with Turflon Ester Ultra specialty herbicide at 8-16 fl. oz./acre to control dollarweed with a single application and improve control of tough broadleaf weeds like Florida pusley, matchweed and Old World diamond flower.
- SELECTIVELY REMOVE BERMUDAGRASS: The safener in Recognition even safens Fusilade II herbicide (12-24 fl. oz./A) in tank mixes to selectively remove bermudagrass from St. Augustinegrass or zoysiagrass turf.
| Active ingredient | Label concentration | Herbicide group | Amount per gallon |
|---|---|---|---|
| S-metolachlor | 38.60% | 15 | 3.47 pounds |
| Metribuzin | 7.13% | 5 | 0.642 pounds |
| Cloransulam-methyl | 0.72% | 2 | 0.065 pounds |
A premix does not mean every weed listed is controlled equally by all three ingredients. The label cautions that some weeds may be controlled by only one active ingredient and that naturally occurring resistance to these herbicide groups exists.
When and where the label allows application
The label allows application to soybeans preplant on the soil surface, preplant incorporated, or preemergence. In reduced-tillage and no-till systems, it also describes use in a tank mix as part of a burndown program before soybeans emerge. Specific rates, timing, tank-mix directions, soil restrictions, and weed-control levels are governed by the complete current label.
Rank #2
- BROAD-SPECTRUM WEED ACTION: Fusilade herbicide weed killer targets perennial and annual grass weeds in various settings. Safe for landscapes, nurseries, and sports fields, it controls weeds without harming ornamentals, ensuring a clean appearance
- POWERFUL BROAD-SPECTRUM CONTROL: Applied at 1.29-1.95 oz./acre, Recognition selectively controls sedges (including yellow and puple nutsedge), kyllingas, grasses and broadleaf weeds (dollarweed / lawn pennywort, spotted spurge, wild garlic, carpetweed)
Tendovo is not registered for use on soybeans in California. Syngenta cautions that registration for sale or use can vary by state or county. Confirm local status with the relevant authorities or an agricultural retailer before purchase or application.
Resistance management and weed-control claims
The label recommends resistance-management practices such as scouting, applying the full labeled rate at the correct time, rotating control tactics, and using sequential herbicides with different effective modes of action when needed. Consult the label’s weed tables for the weeds covered and the specified level of control; a broad description of the product’s spectrum is not a substitute for those details.
Rank #3
- Fast-acting, desiccates plant tissue on contact
- Stops photosynthesis within minutes for quick weed control
- Effective on a wide variety of aquatic weeds, including submerged, emergent, and floating species
- Safe for surrounding soil and wildlife, suitable for use around docks, ponds, lakes, and drainage areas
Syngenta presents several efficacy figures, which should be read as company-reported trial results, not promises of results on a particular field:
- Syngenta’s product page says its 2020 university trials in Illinois, Arkansas, Michigan, Ohio, and Missouri found a potential yield increase of 4 to 5 bushels per acre compared with competitive herbicide brands. That is a manufacturer-presented result, not a guaranteed yield gain.
- The same product page says that in Syngenta field trials, over 90% control of broadleaf weeds and annual grasses at five weeks post-emergence was achieved 89% of the time. The claim describes Syngenta’s 2020 trials and their reported conditions.
- Syngenta describes a control spectrum of more than 70 weeds; the current label’s weed tables state which weeds and control levels apply.
- A February 2022 Successful Farming report relayed Syngenta’s claim of more than 95% control of pigweeds and grass weeds compared with competitive herbicides. This is a reported company-trial claim.
These figures use different measures and trial descriptions, so they do not establish a universal ranking against other herbicides. An independent comparison is not established by the cited company claims.
Rank #4
- BROAD-SPECTRUM WEED CONTROL: Tenacity herbicide is a liquid lawn weed control solution labeled to control 46 broadleaf weed and grass species, including crabgrass, goosegrass, clover, dandelion, ground ivy, yellow foxtail, oxalis, yellow nutsedge and unwanted creeping bentgrass.
- APPLICATIONS AT SEEDING: Unlike most herbicides, Tenacity can be applied anytime you are seeding, including bare ground seeding or overseeding of established turf. View the label for the complete listing of tolerant turfgrass species.
- SELECTIVE PRE- AND POST-EMERGENT CONTROL: Based on a naturally occurring compound produced by the bottlebrush plant, Tenacity prevents new weeds from emerging while precisely targeting existing weeds, leaving your lawn and desired grass unharmed.
- EASY TO MEASURE AND POUR: No more lost syringes. Simply squeeze the bottle to place the precise amount of Tenacity needed in the dispensing chamber. Pour 1 tsp. per 2 gal. of water.
- TRUSTED ORIGINAL: Tenacity is the original leading herbicide brand containing the active ingredient mesotrione, which the manufacturer innovated more than 20 years ago. 94% of lawn care operators said Tenacity exceeded their expectations.
Worker protection and environmental directions
The label requires applicators and other handlers to wear protective eyewear, a long-sleeved shirt and long pants, socks and shoes, and chemical-resistant gloves made from listed materials. Nitrile rubber gloves at 14 mils or greater are among the listed options. This is only a summary of selected PPE directions; follow the complete label for all required equipment and handling instructions.
The label says not to apply directly to water or contaminate water when disposing of equipment washwater or rinsate. It warns that the active ingredients may move into groundwater under specified soil and water-table conditions, and that runoff or spray drift can affect surface-water quality and non-target organisms. It also directs users to obtain and follow the Endangered Species Protection Bulletin applicable to the application area and month.

How to verify current directions and availability
- Find the current Tendovo label through EPA’s Pesticide Product Label System, searching by product name or EPA Registration No. 100-1684. EPA’s system includes current and historical label records.
- Read the complete label for crop and geographic eligibility, application timing, rates, tank-mix instructions, restrictions, PPE, and environmental precautions. Do not rely on an older news story for application directions.
- Check state or county registration and local requirements. Syngenta directs prospective buyers to local agricultural retailers and notes that sale or use authorization may differ by location.
- Before applying, check the applicable endangered-species bulletin and follow all label directions. The label states that using the product inconsistently with its labeling violates federal law.
