January 2025 was an unusually good month to buy Microsoft 365 Family. The annual price shown in the January deal snapshot was $99.99, shortly before Microsoft’s US price increased to $129.99 for affected subscriptions on February 14, 2025. Microsoft 365 Personal was also listed as low as $49.99 at Walmart in the same snapshot, although another Walmart deal module showed $65.99, so the exact retailer price depended on the listing and timing.
These are historical US prices from a January 14, 2025 deal comparison—not guaranteed prices today. The right choice depended on whether you needed desktop apps, OneDrive storage, multiple users, Outlook, or a license that would not renew annually.
January 2025 Microsoft Office deal snapshot
The following prices were reported in a TechRadar comparison updated January 14, 2025. Retailer inventory, taxes, activation terms, and changing promotions could affect the final checkout price.
| Product | January 2025 price | License term | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft 365 Personal | $49.99 at Walmart in the comparison table; a separate deal module showed $65.99 | 12 months | One user who wants desktop Office and cloud storage |
| Microsoft 365 Family | $99.99 | 12 months | Households with two to six users |
| Office Home 2024 | $99.99 | One-time purchase | One person using one PC or Mac for noncommercial purposes |
| Microsoft 365 Business | Listings from approximately $149.20 to $329.99 | Usually annual | Organizations needing commercial licensing |
The $49.99 Personal price should be treated as the recorded price in that January comparison, not as a permanently available Walmart price. The same page’s live deal module displayed $65.99, illustrating why buyers needed to check the retailer page before paying.

Best overall deal for one person: Microsoft 365 Personal
At the lowest verified January price, Microsoft 365 Personal was the strongest option for one user who wanted the full desktop applications without buying a separate perpetual license. The plan included Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook, plus 1 TB of OneDrive storage. Subscription benefits also included services such as Defender, Teams, Editor, and Clipchamp, with availability varying by platform and region.
The subscription could be used across multiple device types. The January comparison described a maximum of five devices for the account; Microsoft’s documentation distinguishes device installation from simultaneous use, so buyers should check the current account terms rather than interpret “five devices” as unlimited concurrent use.
At $49.99 for 12 months, the effective cost was about $4.17 per month. At $65.99, it was about $5.50 per month. At the $99.99 annual price, the effective monthly cost was about $8.33.
Best household deal: Microsoft 365 Family at $99.99
Microsoft 365 Family was the standout value when at least two people needed Office. It supported one to six people, and each person received a separate Microsoft account allocation with up to 1 TB of OneDrive storage. That means six users could receive up to 6 TB in total—but it was not one 6 TB account for a single person.

- $99.99 per household for one year;
- $50 per person if shared by two people;
- About $16.67 per person if shared by six people.
Family was especially attractive before the US price increase. Microsoft later moved the plan from $99.99 per year to $129.99 per year for affected subscriptions, with the new price taking effect on February 14, 2025. A January purchase at $99.99 therefore locked in a materially better annual price for that term, although renewal and subscription-management conditions still applied.

Best no-subscription option: Office Home 2024
Office Home 2024 cost $99.99 in the January snapshot and was a one-time purchase rather than an annual subscription. It included the classic desktop versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote for one PC or Mac.
That price made sense for someone who:
- uses one computer;
- does not need 1 TB of OneDrive storage;
- does not need Outlook;
- does not want a recurring annual charge; and
- is buying for personal, noncommercial use.
“One-time purchase” does not mean “lifetime subscription.” Office Home 2024 is a perpetual license for that version on one computer, but Microsoft does not include a free upgrade to the next major Office release. A future major version would require another purchase.

Office Home 2024 also did not include the subscription services or ongoing feature updates associated with Microsoft 365. It was therefore cheaper over several years only if its narrower device, storage, and feature coverage matched your needs.
Do not buy Office Home 2024 for business use
Office Home 2024 was intended for personal, noncommercial use. A freelancer, company, or other commercial user should compare a commercial Microsoft 365 Business plan or Office Home & Business 2024 instead.
Office Home & Business 2024 adds Outlook and is licensed for commercial use. Buying the cheaper Home edition for a business can create a licensing problem even if the applications technically install and run.
Why January 2025 timing mattered
Microsoft began adding Copilot and Microsoft Designer to Microsoft 365 Personal and Family plans worldwide on January 16, 2025. Existing subscribers generally saw the change at their next renewal rather than immediately.
Rank #3
- VERSATILE USE: Office desk chair for home office, work station, or conference room
- ADJUSTABLE COMFORT: Adjustable seat height, adjustable seat angle, and tilt control for customizable comfort
- STURDY CONSTRUCTION:Supports up to 275 pounds; sturdy KD metal base
- COMFORTABLE DESIGN: soft PU upholstery in Black; contoured padded seat, backrest, and armrests for comfort; durable caster wheels for smooth-rolling mobility
- EASY ASSEMBLY:Assembly instructions included; components (casters, base, arms, seat mechanism, hardware kit) arrive packed in the back cushion
The timing created two separate issues for shoppers:
- Feature changes: Personal and Family plans began incorporating additional AI-related benefits around the middle of the month.
- Price changes: The US Family price later rose from $99.99 to $129.99 annually for affected subscriptions.
As a result, a $99.99 Family offer found in January was not equivalent to the standard pricing a buyer would see after the increase. Buyers should still verify whether a retailer sold a new subscription, a renewal, or a product key with different redemption restrictions.
How to compare a Microsoft Office deal before checkout
- Identify the product type. Confirm whether the listing says Microsoft 365 Personal, Microsoft 365 Family, Office Home 2024, Office Home & Business 2024, or a Business plan. Similar names do not mean equivalent licenses.
- Check the number of users and computers. Personal is for one user, Family is for up to six people, and Office Home 2024 is for one PC or Mac.
- Look for Outlook. Office Home 2024 does not include Outlook. Microsoft 365 Personal and Family do; Office Home & Business 2024 also includes it.
- Read the renewal terms. Microsoft 365 is recurring unless canceled. A retailer-sold annual code may be prepaid for 12 months, but the Microsoft account or third-party seller may control future billing.
- Confirm the region and activation method. A cheap product key may be region-restricted, tied to a particular account process, or sold with terms different from an official Microsoft retail purchase.
- Calculate the effective monthly cost. Divide the annual price by 12, then compare that result with the value of storage, updates, device access, and included applications.
Free option for light users
A paid license was not required for basic browser access to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Microsoft offered free web versions after signing in with a Microsoft account. The browser versions were not a complete substitute for the desktop applications or premium features, but they could eliminate the need for a paid plan if you only needed occasional document editing.

A product key priced far below the normal retail range was not automatically equivalent to an official retail license. The seller might be offering a different activation method, region, account association, renewal arrangement, or licensing right.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBefore buying, check whether the listing clearly states:
- the country or region where it can be redeemed;
- whether it is new, a renewal, or an upgrade;
- whether it is for personal or commercial use;
- which Microsoft account receives the license;
- how refunds work if activation fails; and
- whether recurring billing is enabled after redemption.
Microsoft recommends redeeming product keys through the Microsoft account associated with the purchase. Subscriptions billed through third-party partners may need to be managed through that partner rather than directly through Microsoft.

- High-Resilience Molded Foam Seat – Won’t Flatten After 1 Year – Instead of budget foam that hardens and sags within months, the seat is built with high-density, high-resilience molded foam that bounces back day after day. It maintains its shape and cushioning far longer, preventing the “bottoming out” discomfort common at this price point
- Adjustable Lumbar, Not a Fixed Afterthought – Unlike flimsy plastic supports that crack or lose tension, this chair features a durable lumbar mechanism that adjusts depth to match your spine’s natural curve. Genuinely relieves lower back pressure during long sitting sessions
- Breathable Mesh Backrest – No Peeling, No Heat Buildup – Say goodbye to flaking faux leather. The high-tension mesh back promotes continuous airflow, keeping you cool in warm environments and eliminating the mess of peeling upholstery. Mesh holds up significantly better over time and looks professional years later
- Anti-Sink BIFMA Certified Gas Cylinder – A common failure in budget chairs: the pneumatic cylinder loses pressure and slowly sinks during use. Our Class 3 BIFMA-certified gas lift is built to hold its height reliably, so your chair stays exactly where you set it—year after year. No more sudden drops or mid-work adjustments
- Heavy-Duty Metal Core Base (330 lbs Capacity) – Thin plastic bases can crack under stress, especially near the cylinder hub. We use a reinforced nylon base with a metal core, providing the durability and peace of mind you need. Smooth-rolling, 360° silent casters glide across hardwood, tile, or carpet without scratching or catching
Which January 2025 deal was best?
| Your situation | Best fit | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| One person, desktop Office, cloud storage | Microsoft 365 Personal | The lowest January price delivered the complete subscription package for one user. |
| Two or more people needing Office | Microsoft 365 Family | Separate accounts and 1 TB per person made the household cost much lower. |
| One computer, no recurring billing | Office Home 2024 | A $99.99 one-time purchase covered the basic desktop applications. |
| Business or commercial work | Microsoft 365 Business or Office Home & Business 2024 | These options address commercial licensing; Office Home 2024 does not. |
| Occasional browser editing | Free Microsoft web apps | No paid subscription was needed for basic web versions after signing in. |
FAQ
What was the best Microsoft 365 deal in January 2025?
Microsoft 365 Family at $99.99 for 12 months was the best household deal, particularly because the US annual price later increased to $129.99. For one person, Microsoft 365 Personal was recorded at $49.99 at Walmart in the January comparison, although a separate deal module showed $65.99.
Was Office Home 2024 a lifetime subscription?
No. Office Home 2024 was a one-time purchase for one PC or Mac, not a subscription. It did not include a free upgrade to a future major Office version.
Does Office Home 2024 include Outlook?
No. Office Home 2024 included Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Outlook was included with Microsoft 365 plans and Office Home & Business 2024, not the Home 2024 edition.
Can I use Microsoft Office without paying for Microsoft 365?
Yes. Microsoft offered free browser versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint after signing in with a Microsoft account. Desktop applications and some premium features required an eligible paid license.
The Bottom Line
The strongest January 2025 bargain was Microsoft 365 Family at $99.99 if two or more people could use it, especially before the later $129.99 US price. For one user, Microsoft 365 Personal was worthwhile at the lowest verified retailer price. Choose Office Home 2024 only when you want a one-time, personal-use license for one computer and can do without Outlook, OneDrive storage, and future major-version upgrades. Business users should use a commercial edition, not Office Home 2024.
