Ecommerce success does not follow one template. These five examples point to different levers: making a brand easier to access, removing B2B buying friction, managing a huge catalog, choosing a platform for future growth, and learning to compare business models rather than headline metrics. The outcomes below are claims reported by the companies’ platform publishers, not independently audited benchmarks or predictions for other businesses.
1. PAUL & JOE: Use ecommerce to reach customers stores cannot serve
French cosmetics brand PAUL & JOE launched its official online store in 2019 using Shopify Plus. Albion Co., Ltd., which manages the brand’s global expansion, described a practical problem: some interested customers lived far from a store or could not shop during store hours. The online channel was intended to make products accessible to them.
Albion also staffed the channel with former beauty consultants, who handled site updates, inventory, customer support, newsletters and landing pages. That decision connected the digital storefront to people with product knowledge and customer-service experience, rather than treating ecommerce as a standalone technology project.
Shopify’s case study compares online-store sales in 2023 with the store’s first operating year, 2020, and reports sales at four times the 2020 level. It separately reports that in 2024 the conversion rate increased by 15 percentage points for customers who contacted the online store, and that 20% of customers who tried samples from the online site went on to purchase. These are three distinct measures with different comparison frames; they should not be read as one growth rate.
#1 Best Overall
Transferable lesson: Ecommerce can solve an access and service problem as well as a sales-channel problem. The case does not establish that Shopify Plus alone produced the reported results; staffing, merchandising and customer support were part of the operating model.
2. Filtrous: Reduce friction in a B2B buying process
Laboratory-supplies seller Filtrous grew from a garage startup into a global multimillion-dollar business before moving from BigCommerce to Shopify B2B. In its 2025 case story, Shopify reports that the new site launched in 63 days. Shopify also reports a 27% increase in organic conversion rate and estimated weekly savings of 10 hours for customer service and two hours for sales.
Rank #2
The results span different parts of the operation: conversion is a customer outcome, while staff hours are an estimate of time saved. The case publisher does not establish that the platform migration by itself caused either change.
Transferable lesson: For a business selling to organizations, evaluate ecommerce changes against the work buyers and staff must do—not only the storefront’s appearance. Before adopting a new platform, identify which buying or service steps are slow, then decide what evidence would show that they improved.

3. DESTACO: Treat catalog scale as an operational challenge
Industrial-products company DESTACO illustrates a different problem: handling a product catalog approaching one million SKUs. BigCommerce’s case-study index reports 65% more leads and a 73% improvement in page-load speed, alongside simplified management of nearly one million SKUs.
Those figures are summaries from BigCommerce’s index; the index text does not provide full measurement definitions or comparison periods. They therefore offer a directional account of the case, not a reliable benchmark for another large catalog.
Transferable lesson: In a complex catalog business, product organization and site performance can affect both operations and customer discovery. A useful project brief should specify how catalog management, search and page speed will be measured before and after a change.
4. JUGS Sports: Choose for the business you expect to become
Sports-equipment company JUGS Sports appears in BigCommerce’s case-study index. The index quotes the customer saying: “The best part about BigCommerce is that it can scale with us. If we grow a lot, we don’t feel like we’re going to have to change platforms.” The surfaced summary does not give a quantified outcome, so this example supports a point about perceived scalability, not a claim that the company achieved a particular growth rate.
Best Value
Transferable lesson: A platform decision can include the cost and disruption of a future migration. That does not mean a business should buy for hypothetical scale at any price; it means expected growth, catalog complexity and required integrations belong in the decision alongside current needs.

Sea Bags is named in Shopify’s case-study index among its ecommerce examples. The index establishes that Shopify features the business as a case, but the available summary does not provide a specific business problem, intervention, result or comparison period for Sea Bags. It would be misleading to assign it a growth figure or claim a particular strategy from that listing alone.
Transferable lesson: A recognizable brand name is not evidence of a replicable tactic. When evaluating a case story, look for the initial problem, what the business actually changed, the metric and its time frame, and whether the source explains other factors that may have contributed.
Quick Recap
How to read ecommerce success stories without mistaking them for benchmarks
- Separate the metrics. Sales, conversion rate, leads, page speed and staff time measure different things; they cannot be ranked as if they were interchangeable.
- Keep the comparison attached. PAUL & JOE’s sales figure compares 2023 with 2020, while its other reported results concern specific customer groups in 2024. Filtrous’s figures are reported in Shopify’s 2025 story.
- Consider the source. The featured figures come from ecommerce-platform publishers’ case studies or indexes. They can show what a named business and publisher report, but are not independent proof of causation or typical results.
- Look beyond the platform. Staffing, customer service, catalog practices and buying processes may matter alongside software. A migration is an intervention, not a complete explanation.
- Translate the case into a test. Identify the analogous problem in your own business, choose a baseline and comparison period, and track a metric that directly reflects the change you made.
