Electronic Arts is now privately owned: the $55 billion buyout by a consortium of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), Silver Lake and Affinity Partners closed on August 4, 2026. EA stockholders were entitled to $210 in cash for each share they held at closing, and EA common stock ceased trading on Nasdaq.
Did EA get bought out?
Yes. Electronic Arts (EA) completed its sale on August 4, 2026. The deal is no longer pending: stockholders approved it on December 22, 2025, and EA said the closing made the company a wholly owned subsidiary of Oak-Eagle AcquireCo, Inc. Who bought Electronic Arts?

How much did EA sell for?

In its September 2025 announcement, EA said $210 was a 25% premium to the $168.32 closing price on September 25, 2025, which the company identified as the last fully unaffected trading day. EA also said the offer exceeded its cited unaffected all-time high of $179.01 at the August 14, 2025 market close. Those comparisons are the company’s reported figures. The announcement described an approximately $36 billion equity investment and $20 billion in committed debt, with $18 billion expected to be funded at closing. What does $210 a share mean for EA shareholders?
Eligible EA stockholders received $210 in cash for each share they owned at closing, according to the company. The cash payout is the per-share consideration; it should not be confused with the transaction’s approximate $55 billion enterprise value. Since the acquisition closed, EA common stock is no longer listed for public trading.
Is EA still publicly traded?
No. EA said its common stock ceased trading and would be delisted from Nasdaq after the acquisition closed on August 4, 2026. The company is now privately held by the acquiring consortium rather than a publicly traded company whose shares investors can buy on Nasdaq. EA’s closing announcement

What happens to EA’s games and employees now?
EA’s closing announcement describes its business as developing games, content and online services for consoles, mobile devices and PCs. Its franchises include EA SPORTS FC, Battlefield, Apex Legends, The Sims, Madden NFL, College Football, Need for Speed, Dragon Age, Titanfall, Plants vs. Zombies and EA SPORTS F1. The announcement does not establish that the sale has changed staffing, release schedules, game pricing, franchises or creative control.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson said at closing: “Together, we’ll invest boldly, accelerate innovation, and build the next generation of games and experiences for the hundreds of millions of players and fans who inspire us every day.” That is the company’s stated ambition, not evidence of specific future changes. The deal’s debt financing has prompted concern, but consequences are uncertain. The Associated Press reported that some analysts saw private ownership as potentially reducing public-market pressure, while others pointed to the $20 billion debt commitment as a possible source of cost reductions or layoffs. The Associated Press described the completed transaction as the largest-ever buyout funded by private equity. These descriptions refer to the scale of sponsor-led take-private or private-equity-funded buyouts; they do not establish that the deal is the largest transaction across every category of mergers and acquisitions.
