Eidos-Montréal officially announced on March 30, 2026, that a workforce reduction would affect 124 employees. Separate reports in December 2025 said employees had been laid off and that most of the studio’s internal projects had been cancelled, but the studio and parent company Embracer had not confirmed those earlier claims. The March announcement did not name cancelled projects or verify the December report.
What is confirmed about Eidos-Montréal’s layoffs?
There are two distinct rounds in the available reporting, with different confirmation status and figures.

The March statement said: “The reduction in workforce affecting 124 employees is a result of changing project needs and impacts across production and support teams.” That is the studio’s stated reason; the statement did not identify specific projects as cancelled.
Were Eidos-Montréal’s projects cancelled?
In its December 2025 report, PC Gamer relayed claims from sources who spoke to Insider Gaming that most of the studio’s projects had been cancelled and that Eidos-Montréal had shifted toward co-development. The claim was reported, not announced by the studio. PC Gamer said neither Eidos-Montréal nor Embracer had confirmed the layoffs or responded to its comment requests at the time.

The March 2026 workforce announcement referred generally to changing project needs, but it did not say that most internal projects had been cancelled. It therefore cannot be treated as confirmation of the earlier report. The sources cited here do not establish which projects, if any, were cancelled.
What did the studio say about David Anfossi?
In the same March 30 statement, Eidos-Montréal said it and longtime studio head David Anfossi were parting ways and that a leadership transition plan was underway. The statement did not say whether Anfossi resigned or was laid off.

What remains unknown?
- The available reporting does not establish Eidos-Montréal’s current headcount.
- It does not establish whether further layoffs or project cancellations occurred after March 30, 2026.
- Embracer’s May 2026 disclosure of a SEK 1.2 billion impairment concerned an unnamed larger, unannounced game-development project. It did not identify Eidos-Montréal, so it is not evidence that the studio cancelled a project. Embracer Group’s May 2026 report.

Eidos-Montréal is part of Embracer Group. The studio’s official site lists Deus Ex, Thief, Tomb Raider, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Grounded among its history, and features Grounded 2 and Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow.
