Diodes Incorporated planned to cut 17% of its workforce in the first quarter of 2009, after reducing headcount by 7% in the fourth quarter of 2008. The February 9, 2009, EE Times report described the plan as part of a wider effort to respond to weakening global demand and conserve cash; it did not establish the final number of jobs eliminated.
How many jobs did Diodes plan to cut?
EE Times reported that Diodes planned a 17% workforce reduction in the first quarter of 2009, following a 7% reduction in the previous quarter. The additional cuts were primarily at manufacturing operations. The percentages describe planned reductions reported at the time, not a verified final count of affected employees.
The report quoted then-president and CEO Keh-Shew Lu saying the company was making “incremental changes to the organizational structure” to maximize efficiencies, reduce costs and conserve cash. This was his explanation in 2009, not a statement about the company’s current workforce.

Further measures described in the report included additional reductions across the organization, temporary site shutdowns, compensation and hiring freezes, more mandatory time off, and consolidating wafer output. Diodes also planned to integrate Zetex products into its manufacturing facilities and lower manufacturing-process and raw-material costs.
What happened to revenue, and what was only a forecast?
EE Times reported fourth-quarter 2008 revenue of $87.1 million, down from $134.0 million in the third quarter of 2008 and $107.6 million in the fourth quarter of 2007. These are reported results in the February 2009 article.

For the first quarter of 2009, management forecast a sequential revenue decline of about 20%. Lu said the company expected the economy and global demand to deteriorate further, beyond the quarter’s typical seasonality. That figure was a forecast at the time; it should not be read as the quarter’s confirmed result. The February 9, 2009, EE Times report is the source for the announced reductions, revenue figures and forecast.

Diodes’ fiscal 2025 Form 10-K reported 7,989 employees as of December 31, 2025: 6,753 in Asia, 790 in Europe and 446 in the Americas. It describes the company as supplying semiconductor products to automotive, industrial, computing, consumer-electronics and communications markets. Those later figures give current-era context only; they do not show how many people were employed in 2009 or establish the outcome of the announced cuts.
