Delta SkyMiles members can earn miles with more than 20 airline partners, but the partner network is not one uniform set of rules. Which flights earn miles—and which partner flights you can book with miles—depends on the airline, ticket and fare, route, seat availability and sometimes where you live.
Which airlines partner with Delta SkyMiles?
Delta says members can earn miles with more than 20 airline partners. Its overview names Virgin Atlantic, Air France, KLM, LATAM and Aeromexico as examples. These are not a complete roster: Delta’s live partner directory is the place to check whether a particular airline is currently included.
A partner relationship does not guarantee that every flight on that airline earns SkyMiles or can be booked with them. Earning eligibility and award options are governed by separate rules, which can vary by flight and traveler.
Can you earn SkyMiles on partner airlines?
Yes, if the specific flight and fare qualify under Delta’s current rules. The mileage calculation can depend on three different airlines or roles: the marketing carrier, which sells the flight under its flight number; the ticketing carrier, which issued the ticket; and the operating carrier, which flies the aircraft.

Delta identifies the marketing carrier by the airline code in the flight number. A Delta-issued ticket number begins with 006. A partner may operate the aircraft while Delta markets or tickets the flight, and that can affect how miles are calculated.
- Delta-marketed flights and certain Delta-ticketed flights: generally follow Delta’s published spend-based earning rules for eligible tickets.
- Partner-marketed flights not issued on Delta ticket stock: generally earn according to the partner-specific chart, which can use fare class and flight distance.
- Some partner flights: may have rules based on both the marketing and ticketing carrier. Check the rule for the exact airline and itinerary rather than assuming all partner flights use the same formula.
Delta says partner mileage rates vary by airline and may change; the rates in effect on the travel date apply. See the SkyMiles Program Rules and the relevant partner’s earning chart before buying a ticket.

Check fare eligibility before paying
Not every ticket earns miles. Depending on the flight and applicable rule, exclusions can include basic fares, award travel, some opaque or bulk fares, and fare classes that are not listed as eligible. Delta also states that mileage credit goes to the SkyMiles member who actually flies on scheduled service. The itinerary’s price alone does not establish whether it qualifies.
- Find the flight number and identify the marketing carrier.
- Check who will operate the flight and whether the ticket will be issued by Delta; Delta ticket stock begins with 006.
- Look up the fare class and exclusions in Delta’s current rules for that partner and ticket arrangement.
- Add your SkyMiles number to the reservation and keep your ticket and boarding-pass details. If credit is missing, Delta’s rules explain how to request it.
Can you use SkyMiles to book partner flights?
Yes. Delta allows members to redeem SkyMiles for partner award travel, generally through Delta. That does not mean every partner, route or date will have an award seat available. Taxes and fees are the passenger’s responsibility, and some airline partners may charge additional award-travel fees.

Availability and eligibility are specific to the airline and itinerary. Delta’s award information, for example, describes Thai AirAsia awards for residents of Asia-Pacific and Skymark awards for qualifying members residing in Japan. These are limited examples, not a promise that every member can book every listed airline or route.
Before relying on an award option, search the exact dates and route and check member-residence requirements, permitted routing, taxes and surcharges, and the applicable change and cancellation terms. An award seat is not interchangeable with a cash ticket: the rules and availability can differ.

How to compare partner flights
When weighing a paid partner itinerary against another flight, assess the details that determine both mileage credit and the value of a possible award:
- Marketing and ticketing: Which airline code appears on the flight number, and who issues the ticket?
- Operating carrier: Which airline actually flies the aircraft?
- Fare eligibility: Is the paid fare class eligible, and what earning basis or percentage does the applicable chart provide?
- Redemption access: Can your residence and the route qualify, and is an award seat available for your dates?
- Costs and flexibility: What taxes, fees or surcharges apply, and what are the change and cancellation conditions?
Delta’s partner rates and benefits can change. Verify the exact flight against its current partner earning information and partner award information before booking.
