The middle half of reported salaries ran from $96,000 to $150,000. These are base-pay figures—not total compensation—and the public summary does not give the associate-only respondent count.
What is the average venture capital associate salary in 2025?
Venture5’s 2025 Venture Capital Salary Survey reports a $126,000 average and a $130,000 median U.S. associate base salary. The median is the midpoint: half of reported salaries were below it and half above. The average is the arithmetic mean, which can be more affected by unusually high or low values.
| Measure | 2025 associate base salary |
|---|---|
| Median | $130,000 — Venture5, 2025 |
| Average | $126,000 — Venture5, 2025 |
| Middle half of responses | $96,000 to $150,000 — Venture5, 2025 |
| Displayed full range | $31,000 to $250,000 — Venture5, 2025 |
The middle-half range is a more useful guide to the spread of typical reported salaries than the full range, which includes extreme values. Venture5’s public summary does not disclose how many associate responses underpin these figures, so it is not possible to calculate a confidence interval from the published information. The survey collected more than 700 responses across VC professionals and more than 50 firms, spanning institutional and corporate venture capital, incubators and accelerators, and family offices; that overall sample is not the associate-only count.
Did VC associate pay rise or fall?
Venture5 reports that average associate base salary fell from $133,000 in 2024 to $126,000 in 2025, a 5% decline according to the survey. The publisher also says associate pay has alternated between gains and losses each year since 2020. This describes the survey’s results, not a census of every U.S. firm: it does not establish that every employer lowered salaries or that a particular candidate will receive less.

Does the salary include bonus or carried interest?
No. The $126,000 average and $130,000 median are base salary figures, not total compensation. Venture5 describes VC compensation as potentially including salary, bonus, and carried interest (“carry”). It says salary is usually paid from fund management fees, but that general description does not mean every fund follows the same structure or every associate receives carry.
Venture5 says its full report includes bonus distributions and firm-type splits, but its public summary does not state associate-level bonus or carry amounts. Those components therefore cannot be added to the published base salary to produce a supported total-compensation estimate.

How does associate pay compare with senior-associate pay?
Venture5 reports a 2025 senior-associate median base salary of $150,000, with the middle half between $125,000 and $180,000. Average senior-associate base salary was $154,000 in 2025, down from $166,000 in 2024, according to the same survey. The higher median is an adjacent-level comparison; it does not establish a guaranteed promotion timeline or raise.

Before comparing two VC compensation figures, check that they describe the same year, geography, job function, seniority, employer type and size, and compensation component. “Associate” can refer to different jobs across firms, while investment roles and platform functions are not interchangeable populations.
Rank #3
For example, VC Platform’s 2020 survey reported a U.S. associate average base salary of $86,325 and an average bonus of $17,074. Those numbers came from 34 base-salary observations and 23 bonus observations in a survey of venture platform professionals; they are dated and do not estimate 2025 investment-associate pay. VC Platform’s 2025 survey methodology says it normalizes platform-role responses by geography, tenure, fund size, fund type, and function, and explicitly excludes investment-focused roles.
Accordingly, the VC Platform figures answer a different question from Venture5’s 2025 investment-associate salary survey. A difference between them should not be read as a clean year-over-year salary change.

How to use the 2025 benchmark when evaluating an offer
- Compare the offer with the $130,000 median and $96,000–$150,000 middle-half range as base-pay benchmarks, not promises or a universal market rate.
- Ask the employer to distinguish base salary from bonus, carry, and any other compensation, and clarify which components are guaranteed, discretionary, or contingent.
- Check that the comparison is for a U.S. investment associate role and a similar seniority and firm context; a platform-role survey or a differently defined title may not be comparable.
- Treat the survey’s 5% reported average decline as context about its respondents, not evidence that your firm has reduced its pay bands.
