Temu scams usually do not require a fraudster to break into your Temu account. More often, they use Temu’s name, discounts, delivery notices, or customer-service branding to move you to a fake website or persuade you to send money outside the platform.

The safest rule is simple: verify offers, orders, refunds, and seller requests inside the Temu app or by typing Temu.com yourself. Do not trust a link, caller ID, social-media account, or branded message merely because it looks official.

1. Fake Temu websites, emails, ads, and social accounts

Scammers copy Temu’s logo, colors, product listings, and checkout screens. Their messages may claim that you have won a prize, need to confirm an order, or must sign in to receive a refund. The link leads to a look-alike page designed to collect your Temu password, card number, security code, Social Security number, or one-time verification code.

Common warning signs include:

  • A web address you did not reach by opening the Temu app or typing the address yourself.
  • A request for your password, full card number, PIN, card security code, tax ID, or security-question answers.
  • An attachment that supposedly contains an order confirmation or invoice.
  • Pressure to act immediately.
  • A demand for a “customs,” “release,” or “shipping” fee before a free gift can be delivered.

Temu lists domains such as temu.com, temuemail.com, temumail.com, temuofficial.com, temufavor.com, usa.temu.com, and emea.temu.com as legitimate Temu-related domains. That list is only a screening tool. A forged sender name or a compromised account can still make a message appear credible.

If you entered your login details on a suspicious page, change your password through Account page > Settings > Account security > Password > Edit > Submit. Change any other account password where you reused the same credentials. If you sign in with Google, Apple, Facebook, or another provider, secure that account too.

2. Fake giveaways, free gifts, coupons, and prizes

Not every Temu free-gift promotion is fake. Temu does run promotions through its own services. The scam is usually an unaffiliated advertisement, influencer account, text message, or website that uses a Temu-themed offer to collect information or money.

The offer might promise “six free gifts,” a surprise box, a gift card, cash, or an unusually large coupon bundle. After clicking, you may be asked to:

  • Enter card details or extensive personal information.
  • Download an unfamiliar app or browser extension.
  • Pay a small processing, shipping, or customs fee.
  • Share the offer with contacts before you can supposedly claim it.

Check promotions by opening Temu directly and looking inside your account. Do not enter payment information on a page reached through an unsolicited offer. Temu specifically warns that requests for extra shipping or customs fees for free gifts sent by email or text are fraudulent.

3. Fake customer-service agents and refund scams

A scammer may call, text, email, or message you on WhatsApp or social media while pretending to be Temu support. They may say your account was hacked, an order needs verification, or a refund is waiting. The goal is often to obtain a one-time code, card details, login credentials, or an upfront “refund release” fee.

Never give an unsolicited caller your full card number, password, tax-identification number, or verification code. A legitimate refund does not require cryptocurrency, gift cards, remote access to your device, or payment to unlock the money.

Use Temu’s own support route instead:

  1. In the app, select You.
  2. Tap the customer-service icon in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Support, scroll down, and choose Contact us.

On Temu.com, choose Support in the top navigation, scroll down, and select Contact us. Start from there even if the person contacting you provides a phone number or support link.

4. Sellers who move payment outside Temu

A seller or supposed Temu representative may offer a lower price, faster shipping, or a private refund if you pay through a QR code, bank transfer, wire transfer, e-wallet, cryptocurrency, or another website. They may describe it as a special discount or a way to avoid platform fees.

This removes important protections. Temu warns that it cannot verify or assist with transactions completed outside its platform. A message appearing inside Temu is not automatically safe if it asks you to leave Temu to pay or resolve an order.

Keep payment, order changes, refund requests, and disputes inside Temu. Before blocking the account, save screenshots of the conversation, seller name, listing, payment request, and any tracking information. If you already paid off-platform, contact the payment provider immediately; recovery becomes harder as time passes.

5. Fake Temu jobs and product-boosting task scams

These scams often begin with an unexpected text, WhatsApp message, Telegram invitation, or social-media direct message. The sender claims Temu is hiring people to like products, rate listings, place orders, or optimize online stores.

A fake dashboard shows commissions increasing as you complete simple tasks. The operator may even send a small initial payment to make the scheme look genuine. Eventually, you are told to deposit money, “recharge” your account, pay a tax, or send cryptocurrency before completing a higher-value task or withdrawing your earnings.

The displayed balance is fake. The Federal Trade Commission’s guidance is direct: never pay money to get paid, and do not trust offers that pay you for rating or liking products online.

Be especially cautious when a job:

  • Arrives unexpectedly by text or messaging app.
  • Promises unusually high pay for clicks, reviews, or basic online activity.
  • Requires a deposit or withdrawal fee.
  • Uses a private website or app unrelated to Temu’s official channels.
  • Pressures you to recruit other participants.

A related warning: offers for a “Temu Coin,” $TEMU token, crypto wallet claim, or Temu-branded airdrop should be treated as fraudulent. Malwarebytes reported a fake Temu crypto-airdrop campaign in March 2026, and Temu has said it has not issued a cryptocurrency, token, or digital asset.

6. Fake delivery notices and brushing packages

A fake delivery text may say your Temu package is delayed, held at customs, missing postage, or waiting for delivery preferences. Its link leads to a counterfeit Temu or courier page that asks for card details, an address, or other personal information.

Do not track a package through the message link. Open the Temu app or type the site address yourself, then check Your orders and the order’s tracking information. Temu says it will not request additional fees by email or text after an order, including customs-clearance fees or charges for free gifts and surprise boxes.

An unexpected parcel is a different type of fraud called brushing. A seller sends merchandise to an address obtained online, then uses the recipient’s identity to create fake reviews or inflate sales. If you receive a package you did not order, change shopping-account passwords, monitor your credit reports, and report the incident. Avoid contacting the sender directly.

What to do if you paid or shared information

  1. Stop communicating with the scammer. Do not send another payment to recover an earlier payment.
  2. Contact the payment provider. Call your card issuer, bank, payment app, or cryptocurrency exchange and explain that the transaction involved fraud. Ask about cancellation, a chargeback, or account protection.
  3. Secure your accounts. Change the compromised Temu password and every reused password. Turn on available multi-factor authentication.
  4. Contact Temu directly. Use You > customer-service icon > Support > Contact us in the app, or Support > Contact us on Temu.com.
  5. Report the message. Temu says suspicious emails can be forwarded to [email protected], preferably as an attachment. Do not open suspicious attachments first.
  6. Report broader fraud. In the United States, file a report at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. For package-delivery texts, verify tracking directly through the carrier’s official website.

How to tell a Temu problem from a scam

A damaged, counterfeit, unsafe, or inaccurately described product is not automatically proof of a scam. It may be a marketplace or seller problem. Use Temu’s order and Purchase Protection processes for items that do not arrive, arrive damaged, or are not as described.

The stronger scam indicators are requests to leave Temu, pay an unusual fee, disclose sensitive credentials, install unknown software, or send money before receiving a refund or job payment.

FAQ

Does Temu really offer free gifts?

Yes, Temu runs official promotions, including free-gift activities. Verify an offer inside the Temu app or on Temu.com. Treat requests from outside links for card details, downloads, or extra shipping and customs fees as suspicious.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will Temu ask for my password or one-time security code?

You should not provide your password or security code to an unsolicited caller, email sender, seller, or social-media account. Start support from the Temu app or Temu.com instead.

What should I do if a Temu seller asks me to pay by cryptocurrency or bank transfer?

Do not pay outside Temu. Save evidence, report the seller through Temu, and contact your bank or payment provider immediately if you already sent money.

Can I get a refund after being scammed?

Possibly, depending on the payment method and timing, but there is no guarantee. Contact your card issuer, bank, payment app, or crypto exchange immediately, secure your accounts, and report the incident to Temu and the relevant fraud-reporting authority.

The Bottom Line

Temu branding is easy to copy, so use the transaction path—not the logo or sender name—as your test. Open Temu yourself, keep payments and refunds on the platform, refuse requests for passwords and verification codes, and never pay to unlock a prize, job earnings, or refund.
