Daryl Hall and John Oates’ business dispute was resolved in arbitration, according to a court status report described by the Associated Press and Rolling Stone. Hall’s lawyers said the claims had been adjudicated and a final arbitration judgment entered; they said they would file a notice of voluntary dismissal in court. The public reports do not disclose the judgment’s terms or identify a winner.

What was the dispute about?

Hall sued Oates in Nashville in November 2023 over their business partnership, Whole Oats Enterprises LLP. The immediate issue was Oates’ planned sale of his stake in the venture to Primary Wave IP Investment Management LLC. A judge paused the sale while the private arbitration process proceeded, the Associated Press reported.

How did the case end?

In a status report filed on August 11, 2025, Hall’s lawyers told the court that the claims had been adjudicated in arbitration. They wrote: “Given the entry of final judgment in arbitration, plaintiffs will be contemporaneously filing a notice of voluntary dismissal with the court.” Rolling Stone quoted the status-report language; the AP also reported the final judgment and planned dismissal.

This describes two related procedural steps: the arbitration had reached a final judgment, and Hall’s lawyers said they would ask to dismiss the court action voluntarily. The statement does not explain the arbitrator’s reasoning or establish what the judgment ordered.

What is not publicly known?

The reports do not disclose the arbitration’s terms, any payment or other financial figure, which party prevailed on the claims, or the date the arbitration concluded. They also do not describe the final judgment’s requirements. It would therefore be inaccurate to characterize the outcome as a disclosed settlement amount or to say that either Hall or Oates won.
