DocuSign announced on February 6, 2024, that it expected to reduce its workforce by approximately 6%—about 400 employees, according to a memo from CEO Allan Thygesen. GeekWire reported that Seattle-based employees were among those affected, but neither the company announcement nor the local report gave a Seattle-specific count. This is a report on the 2024 restructuring, not a newly established 2026 layoff.

How many employees did DocuSign plan to lay off?

DocuSign’s February 6, 2024 announcement said the restructuring was expected to reduce its workforce by approximately 6%. In an employee memo filed with the SEC, CEO Allan Thygesen described the impact as about 400 employees. These are approximate company-wide estimates, not a count of employees in any one location.

Were DocuSign employees in Seattle affected?

Yes, according to GeekWire, which reported that Seattle-based employees were among those affected, citing employee posts on LinkedIn. The report did not give a Seattle total, and DocuSign’s announcement did not identify a local count. The company-wide estimate should not be used to infer how many Seattle employees were affected.

Which parts of DocuSign were most affected?

DocuSign said the majority of impacted positions were in Sales & Marketing. That does not mean every affected position was in those organizations; the announcement did not say that all the cuts were concentrated there.

Why did DocuSign announce the restructuring?

The company said the plan was intended to strengthen financial and operational efficiency while continuing investment in products and related initiatives. Thygesen’s memo said DocuSign needed to improve profitability and focus investment on initiatives that supported long-term growth. Those are the company’s stated reasons for the decision.

Thygesen also described cost reductions that preceded the headcount action: “This is why I asked the Executive Leadership Team to reduce operating costs for FY25, starting with an emphasis on operating costs other than current employee headcount, including areas such as program spend, professional fees, non-critical open roles, and more.”

What costs did DocuSign estimate for the restructuring?

In its 2024 announcement, DocuSign estimated non-recurring restructuring charges of $28 million to $32 million. The estimate primarily covered employee transition, notice, severance, benefits and related costs, as well as non-cash expenses from share-award vesting. This was an estimate at the time of the announcement, not a confirmed final cost.

What the 2024 report does—and does not—establish

The February 6, 2024 company announcement and SEC-filed memo establish the date, approximate company-wide scale, organizational focus and stated rationale. GeekWire is the source for the report that Seattle-based employees were affected, based on employee LinkedIn posts. The sources cited here do not establish a Seattle-specific total or a separate 2026 layoff announcement.
