Damon Anthony Dash’s September 2025 Chapter 7 schedules reported $25,303,049.47 in liabilities—the figure rounded to “$25 million” in the headline. The same filing listed $4,350 in property and no current monthly income. These are figures Dash reported in his bankruptcy papers, not a court finding about his net worth or a ruling that every listed claim is valid.

What Damon Dash reported in his bankruptcy filing

Dash filed a voluntary Chapter 7 petition on September 4, 2025, in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida. The debtor named in the petition is Damon Anthony Dash; the case number is 8:25-bk-06436-RCT. His schedules reported the following amounts:

Item Amount reported
Total liabilities $25,303,049.47
Priority unsecured claims $19,789,681.87
Nonpriority unsecured claims $5,513,367.60
Total property $4,350
Current monthly income $0
Monthly expenses $5,200

The priority and nonpriority unsecured claim figures add up to the reported liability total. The filing listed no real estate. The amounts are from Dash’s schedules, rather than an independent valuation or a final decision about the claims.

What the reported debt includes

The schedules classify most of the reported liabilities as priority unsecured claims. The Los Angeles Times described about $19.1 million as owed to government creditors and nearly $648,000 as domestic support obligations; those are the publication’s rounded descriptions of details in the filing, not separate exact totals from the schedules.

Dash’s one-third interest in Roc-A-Fella Records was auctioned to the New York Department of Taxation and Finance in 2024 to help pay tax debt, according to the Los Angeles Times. That prior auction is distinct from the later trustee proposal involving Dash’s life-story rights and archival footage.

What Chapter 7 means—and what the filing does not establish

Chapter 7 is a bankruptcy process in which a trustee administers the case and may sell a debtor’s nonexempt property, distributing proceeds to creditors. The U.S. Courts describes it as “liquidation.” A petition and schedules do not, on their own, establish that every listed debt will be upheld, paid, or discharged. The ultimate treatment depends on the case and applicable law.

Dash’s attorney, Brian D. Zinn, told the Los Angeles Times that bankruptcy is “simply a legal tool” that people have used to make debts more manageable, and said the case was “no different.” That statement describes the attorney’s view; it does not determine the outcome of the proceeding.

How the bankruptcy notice affected a related enforcement case

A September 2025 district-court order in the related Webber litigation stayed enforcement proceedings against Dash personally after notice of his bankruptcy. It did not stay proceedings against Poppington LLC, a separate business entity, and it allowed certain auctions to proceed. The order therefore did not halt all litigation or enforcement activity involving Dash and related parties.

Later reported proposal involving life-story rights

On August 7, 2026, Bloomberg Law reported that a bankruptcy trustee had proposed selling rights connected to Dash’s life story along with more than 100 hours of archival footage. Everlasting Films LLC made a reported $37,000 floor bid. That report establishes a proposed sale and bid, not that a court finally approved the sale or that a transfer was completed.

Where to check the case status

For the latest procedural status, consult the federal bankruptcy docket using case number 8:25-bk-06436-RCT. The U.S. Courts says federal bankruptcy case records are available through PACER. A later docket entry would be needed to confirm whether the proposed life-story-rights sale was approved or completed.
