Jaguar is a British marque, but “British” describes its heritage and corporate identity—not necessarily the factory where every car was assembled. Recent Jaguars have been built in England, Austria and China, and the answer now depends heavily on the model and its production date.

The company is no longer owned by Ford. Jaguar sits within Jaguar Land Rover Automotive plc, or JLR, which has been wholly owned by Tata Motors since 2008. JLR is also moving from its outgoing petrol and electric lineup to a new generation of electric Jaguars.

Where are Jaguar cars made?

Jaguar production has been spread across several facilities. The same model name can also have different production locations depending on the market, so a used-car buyer should check the specific vehicle rather than assume that every Jaguar was made in the United Kingdom.

Location Jaguar models and role Latest production position
Solihull, West Midlands, England Jaguar F-PACE F-PACE production ended in 2025. The site is being prepared for the next generation of electric Jaguars.
Castle Bromwich, Birmingham, England Jaguar XE, XF and F-TYPE Vehicle production ended during 2024. The facility is being repurposed for body panels, personalized paintwork and work supporting future electric vehicles.
Graz, Austria Jaguar I-PACE and E-PACE, built by Magna Steyr Production ended as part of the wind-down of the outgoing Jaguar models.
China E-PACE, XE-L and XF-L for the Chinese market, made by Chery Jaguar Land Rover Production of these outgoing China-market models ended in September 2025.

Therefore, a statement such as “all Jaguars are made in Britain” is inaccurate. Many important Jaguar models were built in England, but the I-PACE and E-PACE were assembled in Austria, while certain China-market models were manufactured in China.

What is Jaguar building next?

Jaguar is currently between product generations. The outgoing models reached the end of their production runs during 2024 and 2025. JLR says the next production Jaguar will be a fully electric four-door GT, referred to as Type 01, and that it will be manufactured at Solihull in England.

The Type 00 shown in 2024 is a design-vision concept rather than the production vehicle. Treating Type 00 as the name of the car customers will buy is a common but important mistake; JLR identifies the forthcoming production model as Type 01. JLR planned to reveal the new car later in 2026.

This transition does not mean Jaguar has permanently stopped making cars. It means the outgoing range has ended while JLR retools facilities and prepares the next electric lineup.

Who owns Jaguar?

Jaguar is part of Jaguar Land Rover Automotive plc, generally called JLR. Tata Motors acquired Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford in 2008. Since then, JLR has been a wholly owned Tata Motors subsidiary.

The ownership chain can be summarized as:

  1. Tata Sons is the largest shareholder of Tata Motors.
  2. Tata Motors’ passenger-vehicle company owns JLR following Tata Motors’ corporate restructuring.
  3. Jaguar Land Rover Automotive plc operates the JLR business.
  4. Jaguar is one of JLR’s brands.

Following Tata Motors’ demerger, effective October 1, 2025, the passenger-vehicle business—including JLR—remained with the Tata passenger-vehicle entity, while the commercial-vehicle business moved into a separate listed company. That change did not amount to Jaguar being sold to another automaker.

Is Jaguar still owned by Ford?

No. Ford is Jaguar’s former owner, not its current one. Ford sold Jaguar and Land Rover to Tata Motors in 2008. A used Jaguar may have been designed, engineered or manufactured during the Ford era, but that historical connection does not describe the company’s ownership today.

What does the ownership and factory information mean for buyers?

For someone considering a Jaguar, the factory location is only one part of the ownership and running-cost picture. It does not by itself establish whether a particular car is reliable, expensive to insure or likely to retain value.

Three practical checks are more useful:

  1. Identify the exact model and build date. An F-PACE assembled in Solihull, an I-PACE built in Graz and a China-market XE-L are not interchangeable examples of Jaguar production. The vehicle identification number, build plate and registration documents can help establish the car’s origin.
  2. Check warranty and parts support. Jaguar’s model transition can affect the availability and pricing of model-specific parts, servicing expertise and replacement batteries. Confirm coverage and local support before buying, especially for an outgoing electric model.
  3. Separate corporate ownership from financial responsibility. Tata’s ownership may provide the backing of a large automotive group, but it does not guarantee a particular vehicle’s resale value or eliminate repair costs. Compare insurance, scheduled servicing, repair quotes and depreciation for the exact model.

For a used-car budget, the production country is best treated as identification information. The more financially important questions are the car’s age, mileage, service history, remaining warranty, battery condition where relevant, insurance group and likely repair bills.

Jaguar remains a British brand, but its cars have not all been made in Britain. Recent production covered England, Austria and China, with the location varying by model and market. The outgoing lineup has now ended, while JLR prepares a new electric Jaguar at Solihull. Ownership is equally clear: Ford sold Jaguar to Tata Motors in 2008, and Jaguar remains part of Tata-owned JLR.
