Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The Galaxy Z Fold6 deal behind the “$1,590 off” headline was a U.S. preorder promotion published July 10, 2024—not a current offer. The maximum depended on combining a qualifying trade-in, two conditional discounts and the stated value of a 1TB storage upgrade. Samsung’s preorder benefits ended July 23, 2024; as of August 18, 2026, Samsung lists the Fold6 as end of life.
What the $1,590 figure included
Samsung priced the 256GB Galaxy Z Fold6 at $1,899.99 at launch. The headline’s maximum was a calculation of several different kinds of value, not a single $1,590 reduction in the phone’s price. Samsung confirmed the launch price, a maximum eligible trade-in value of $1,200 and double-storage preorder offers in its July 2024 launch announcement. The additional referral, app-discount and storage-value figures came from Droid Life’s July 10, 2024 deal breakdown.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra Unlocked Android Smartphone, 512GB Graphite | $2,989.99 | Buy on Amazon |
| Component | Maximum stated value | What it meant |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Z Fold5 trade-in | $1,200 | Promotional credit applied to the purchase, subject to eligibility and inspection |
| Publisher referral discount | $100 | Conditional discount associated with the publisher’s referral route |
| First Shop Samsung app purchase | $50 | App/customer-specific discount described in the original coverage |
| Upgrade to 512GB | $120 | Stated storage-value estimate; not a cash rebate |
| Upgrade to 1TB | $240 | Stated storage-value estimate; this higher amount is needed for the $1,590 total |
| Maximum using the 1TB value | $1,590 | Mixed total: trade-in credit, conditional discounts and estimated product value |
The arithmetic is $1,200 + $100 + $50 + $240 = $1,590. Counting only the $120 value assigned to the 512GB upgrade produces $1,470. The headline therefore used the 1TB upgrade valuation, not just the advertised move from 256GB to 512GB.
What a Fold5 owner might have paid at checkout
Using the original 256GB launch price and assuming the discounts stacked as described, the price calculation for a buyer trading in an eligible Fold5 was approximately:

- A premium foldable smartphone featuring an 8.0" Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display, 6.5" cover display, 200MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, 4,400mAh battery, and a slim 215g design.
- $1,899.99 starting price
- Subtract up to $1,200 trade-in credit: approximately $699.99 remaining
- Subtract the $100 referral discount: approximately $599.99 remaining
- Subtract the $50 first-purchase app discount: approximately $549.99 before tax and other charges
The storage upgrade adds capacity; it does not necessarily subtract more money from checkout. The result was not a universal price, and it should not be described as a $309 phone: that figure would treat the 1TB upgrade’s estimated value as cash. Taxes and any other charges could also change the amount due.
Trade-in amounts depended on the device
The original deal coverage listed these launch-period maximums. “Up to” matters: the final offer depended on Samsung’s eligibility and inspection rules, as well as the promotion and the device submitted.
| Trade-in device | Maximum listed credit |
|---|---|
| Galaxy Z Fold5 | Up to $1,200 |
| Galaxy Z Fold4 | Up to $1,000 |
| Galaxy Z Fold3 | Up to $900 |
| Galaxy S24 Ultra | Up to $900 |
| Galaxy S23 Ultra | Up to $800 |
For example, applying the listed $1,000 Fold4 maximum to the same assumed $100 referral and $50 app discounts would leave approximately $749.99 before tax. That calculation assumes all three credits applied together; the $1,590 headline scenario was not available to someone without the qualifying high-value trade-in and other discounts.
Credit at checkout still came with a return obligation
The original coverage described the trade-in credit as an immediate price reduction, rather than a reimbursement paid later. The customer still had to send in the old device, and a failed inspection could affect the credit under the applicable trade-in terms. A maximum advertised value was not a guarantee that every Fold5 would receive $1,200.

Compare the credit with selling privately
The relevant financial comparison is the Samsung credit against the old phone’s realistic resale proceeds after marketplace fees, shipping and the time and risk of a private sale—not against an assumed full retail price. A promotional trade-in can be attractive when its credit exceeds likely resale proceeds or when convenience is worth the difference. A buyer with an excellent-condition device may prefer a private sale, but should account for payment, shipping and fraud risks.

- Trade-in credit: It reduced the Fold6 purchase price, but required surrendering a phone that had its own resale value.
- Referral and app discounts: The $100 referral amount was publisher-specific and time-limited; the $50 app offer was described for a first purchase. Neither should be treated as an automatic markdown available to every shopper.
- Storage value: The $120 and $240 amounts were estimates attached to storage upgrades. Their value to a buyer depended on whether that capacity was wanted, and they were not cash back.
As a result, a buyer without a Fold5, referral eligibility or access to the app offer would not have received the headline’s maximum. A buyer who would have chosen 256GB may also value the larger storage tier below its stated estimate.
Timing and conditions that mattered
Samsung said the preorder benefits applied to orders placed by July 23, 2024. Droid Life published its breakdown on July 10, during that launch window. The referral route and first-purchase app discount added conditions beyond the general preorder offer.
- Trade-in value depended on the exact eligible model and successful device inspection. Damage to displays or hinge, account locks or other condition issues could affect eligibility or value; the full applicable 2024 inspection terms are not established here.
- Before mailing a trade-in, document its condition, remove accounts, factory-reset it and retain shipment records. Follow the program’s instructions and keep proof of shipment.
- Check whether the old device is financed or subject to a carrier agreement; a trade-in does not by itself resolve any separate balance or contractual obligation.
- Sales tax and the taxable amount can vary by jurisdiction and transaction structure. The approximate checkout examples above are pre-tax and are not all-in quotes.
- Do not assume a referral discount, app offer and other promotion can always be combined. The historical headline reflects the specific stack reported at the time.
Is the Galaxy Z Fold6 deal available now?
No. The preorder offer expired in July 2024 and is not a current U.S. Fold6 deal as of August 18, 2026. Samsung’s current smartphone offers page features newer products, including Fold8 promotions, rather than the old Fold6 preorder stack. Samsung’s December 2025 MSRP document lists the Fold6 as EOL, with reference prices of $1,899.99 for 256GB and $2,019.99 for 512GB. EOL is not a guarantee that no retailer has stock; it means buyers should verify any specific listing, condition, warranty and return terms rather than assume the 2024 promotion still applies.

Quick Recap
How to assess a Fold6 listing today
- Check Samsung’s live offers page and trade-in program for current terms; do not carry forward the expired $1,200 maximum.
- For a retailer or marketplace listing, verify whether the phone is new, open-box or refurbished, and confirm model number, warranty coverage, return window and seller identity.
- Compare the current trade-in quote with a conservative estimate of private-sale proceeds after fees and shipping.
- Evaluate any financing separately: check the total payments, promotional conditions and any carrier payoff obligations rather than judging only the advertised monthly amount.
