Two Seattle-connected technology leaders announced new roles in September 2025: Ring CEO Elizabeth “Liz” Hamren became AllTrails CEO, and former AWS chief Adam Selipsky joined KKR as a senior technology and AI strategy advisor. The second headline is now incomplete: in June 2026, Selipsky became co-founder and CEO of Helix Digital Infrastructure, a new AI-infrastructure company backed by more than $10 billion in committed capital, according to KKR.
Liz Hamren moved from Ring to AllTrails
Elizabeth “Liz” Hamren became CEO of AllTrails after leading Ring, Amazon’s home-security business, for about two years, according to GeekWire’s September 2025 report. Her appointment is also reflected in Hasbro’s board biography, which identifies her as AllTrails CEO and notes her prior Ring role.
AllTrails is a consumer platform for discovering trails, using maps and reviews, and planning outdoor trips. The company’s 2025 impact report says its community includes more than 95 million members in over 190 countries; those are company-reported figures, not independently audited user metrics.
Her background spans consumer products and subscriptions
Hamren’s experience includes product and engineering leadership at Microsoft, including Xbox, and senior roles at Discord, Meta/Oculus, Dropcam, Plantronics, and Jawbone. She also served as Discord’s chief operating officer. That mix gives her experience across hardware, software, subscriptions, and large consumer communities—capabilities relevant to AllTrails’ app and membership business. It does not, by itself, establish that AllTrails plans to change its products, pricing, or strategy.

Ron Schneidermann stepped down after nearly a decade
Hamren succeeded Ron Schneidermann, who announced his departure after almost ten years with AllTrails. The company’s farewell post described his tenure from the company’s early six-person stage through its growth into a global outdoor community. The available account establishes his long leadership, not that he founded the company.
Selipsky’s 2025 KKR role focused on technology and real assets
KKR appointed Adam Selipsky Senior Technology and AI Strategy Advisor in September 2025. KKR said his remit was to advise its $179 billion Real Assets business on strategy, capital allocation, and governance, with attention to the infrastructure required to scale AI: computing capacity, data centers, fiber, and energy. He was also expected to work with portfolio-company CEOs and leadership teams. This was an advisory position, not a KKR chief executive role or a return to managing AWS.

KKR also said at the time that it had committed approximately $42 billion across 23 digital-infrastructure investments. Those figures are KKR’s own description of its investment activity. The appointment connected Selipsky’s cloud-industry experience to an investment business where data-center capacity, connectivity, and power are increasingly intertwined.
From AWS and Tableau to KKR
Selipsky joined AWS in 2005 and spent 11 years leading sales, marketing, and support. He left to become CEO of Tableau, leading it through its acquisition by Salesforce, then returned to Amazon as AWS CEO in 2021. Amazon’s leadership announcement outlines his AWS history. KKR described him as having helped scale AWS into a business with more than $100 billion in revenue; that characterization comes from KKR’s appointment announcement.

In 2026, Selipsky became CEO of Helix Digital Infrastructure
On June 11, 2026, KKR announced Helix Digital Infrastructure, naming Selipsky its co-founder and CEO. KKR described Helix as a company intended to coordinate and finance AI infrastructure across data centers, power generation and related infrastructure, transmission and distribution, and fiber and connectivity. KKR’s launch announcement said the company began with more than $10 billion in total long-duration capital commitments from KKR, the Kuwait Investment Authority, NVIDIA, and Vistra. KKR’s Waldemar Szlezak was named Helix chief investment officer.
This is a substantial update to the original KKR-advisor headline. The advisory appointment was real, but Selipsky’s later role puts him in operating leadership of a new infrastructure company rather than describing him only as an adviser to KKR. The announced capital is a commitment at launch, not a statement that the entire amount has already been spent.

The two appointments were separate moves
Hamren’s move to AllTrails and Selipsky’s appointment at KKR were reported together as notable Pacific Northwest technology leadership changes, not as a coordinated corporate development. The available reporting establishes no direct business connection between AllTrails and KKR. Any broader comparison is an interpretation: Hamren moved between consumer platforms, while Selipsky moved from cloud leadership into infrastructure strategy and then an infrastructure operating role. Neither move alone proves a particular product change at AllTrails or a specific KKR investment decision.
